Is there a way to determine tool age from the id number?  Midi is laboring and smells...not crisped but I'm not sure how to be sure that is the motor.  I can obtain an identical Domel motor on Ebay for a little over $100.00, anyone done this?

Year of manufacture is on the label. If it smells, it's the motor, there aren't any other parts that can burn, apart from the motor there is only a circuit board in the vac.

Sometimes though, if you cut wood with a saw the vac can have that burned smell also, but then it's the wood dust in the bag.

This is the motor, as soon as I heard it laboring I shut it down.  The smell is not overwhelming but I've been installing electric door openers for 38 years so I recognize the pungent melting winding smell.  Door operators traditionally used small DC motors.  I've repaired doors where the oily residue and smell were still there 10 years after a meltdown.
