Emotion? None. I don't care.

If it were for a lot more people doing it, I think it would make sense to have a profile function - as some other forums I frequent do - to list a "collection". So people that are interested can look it up.

Personally - and I know it's a stretch given how many pictures I have posted over time, and that I was once active on IG - I think it can draw a lot of unwanted attention nowadays. Especially for those that have posted - in more detail - about their location. Targeted robberies, it's not unheard of, and it has happened before, again, in other forums I frequent.

There are some gems in the Festool range, but also some tools are just overpriced and outgunned compared to their competitors. So I sometimes question the judgement of people who seem to just base their purchase decisions on affinity to the brand, and are prepared to pay more for less performance, rather than favour practical considerations.

Agree with Oliver, plus to me it just adds more scrolling to the page on the forums where you just want to see the details (and photos!) relating to the project.  Let the work bring the credibility!

Thanks Oliver, a gem of a piece of advice there. Let me go and find a piece of stone to carve it into. Maybe there's a Festool for that.

I don't care about the tool lists. I've got the forum settings set to not display user signatures. I severly dislike the extra fluff/clutter and I am happy you can turn them off.

When I just got into Festool and became part of this group I did feel excited about letting the list of tools in my signature grow, but at some point it lost my interest and I disabled my signature.

By the way, I've learned that some people here have a very long list, but never seem to do anything with all those tools they own. Some people are just tool collectors and want them to sit pretty on the shelf. Each to his own of course, but I only keep tools that I actually use.

From their activity on this forum you see by yourself who actually does something with his tools, OP's a good example, and I don't need to know how many tools they have exactly. I just like to enjoy their work and their knowledge.

None that impacts or matter - apart from the list (a very comprehensive one) you had today:

On the other hand, user experience with Festool tools are at home at a place like FOG.
Although there is a lot more to it than that in here! And from my point of view I think it adds to FOG being a diversity of a woodworkers forum with exciting projects shown, down to the mechanics of tools. I think it just makes it more exciting. Variation aspires.

I did start on a signature, but discarded it very soon. It is of little relevance. A long signature (Read: Long list of tools) “contaminates” in a way that it’s filling pages with non relevant writing to the posts. So if you will, in that regards it annoys, especially when reading on small screens like phones and tablets - in wich I do.  [smile]
Regardless, it’s a tool forum with loads of expertise in both tools and woodworking.

Mild irritation mostly. It's  not something I see as relevant and for me kind of clutters things up slightly

My thought are it’s ok if people want to post their tools just say what the darn thing is and leave out the BS. Like a Kapex is a Kapex regardless of the numbers and letters after the item.
I chose not to advertise my tools.

Interesting question (and your made-up list is funny [laughing]).

I'm aware of those footnotes, but seldom pay attention to them. If they're very long, they give me the impression (not necessarily correct, of course) that the owners, if hobbyists, have too many tools by my standards, or tend to be hoarders.

I don't have any footnotes, but if I was going to have one, it'd be a (long) list of furniture/woodworking projects I have done.

If you ask me, I'd admire those who have a very short list of tools, but accompanied by a lengthy list of completed projects. That'd be a statement of skills and creative ability. A long list of fancy machines or premium tools per se doesn't convey a lot to me as a woodworker.

But footnotes or no footnotes, they don't bother me.

Don't do it on this forum and do not really care. I do post it on another forum only because it is a lesser known brand and I want people to be able to ping me with questions on a tool should they have them.

It doesn't bother me but I don't pay any attention to it unless there is a specific reason.  I mostly use a desktop with a big screen, not sure if this shows up on mobile / tablet but I would think it would be annoying on a smaller screen.

Well, as most of you can see, I have a sig with a (chronological) summation of my tools (I did omit the Systainers and such…). My reasoning: I rate the opinion of someone who owns a certain tool higher when that tool is discussed. OTH the ‘Member since…’ is an indication of the experience a forum member has. Together with the accrued experience of reading ppl’s posts I can have an informed opinion about the postings and replies of members. Less stress and grief!

I have been a moderator on a Forum dedicated to Mac-users (QuarkXPress!) & the fact that I have been one since 1989 and had extensive experience with the foremost dtp-apps, made a difference. A padwan would rather have a master as a sensei than a beginner, right?

BTW I did downsize the type for the sig after I saw that tip. The amount of screen real estate it took up did bother me. : ) But I will follow this thread closely and possibly rethink my reasoning.
