Tool Home LLC Has a New Shop!

Tom, awesome work bud.  Psyched to see you get this spot up and going.  What was the old spot like?

Again, congratulations

>>>If you're not in Central TX, you might want to plan a trip... I had a blind woodworker from Idaho come by a few days ago. He was quite an inspiration!

Tinker, I had a girlfriend in High School (and a couple of times later...) who's father was blind by the time I got to meet him. He was an artist and a free-thinking engineer.

His primary artistic outlet was bronze sculpture. He had an interest in a small foundry where his pieces were made.

His work rivaled Remington and the subject matter was similar. It was VERY impressive.

Thanks, Sean!

The old spot was more like a speck than a spot - very tight...

Which taco truck is near you, Tom?  I am always looking for more tacos....

It's called Capital Taco and it's in a really obscure spot behind "The Corner Bar" at Mary & Lamar.

My favorite taco truck in town is on South First just north of Live Oak on the east side in a convenience store lot. It's called Primo's.

Across the street and slightly north is Polvo's, which I think is the best Mexican restaurant there is. I've eaten Mexican food all over Mexico, TX, NM, AZ, and CA. I think Polvo's is the best. I've eaten Mexican food in many other states but they don't even count. Rick Bayliss, really???

If you live in TX, you have heard of Ninfa's restaurants, which were started by Ninfa Lorenzo down by the ship channel in Houston and spread all over the state. I dated her niece, so I've had pretty good Mexican food a lot.

Thanks for the taco info.  I've been a fan of Polvo's for quite a while.  They actually have one up north now closer to me.  Polvo's is part of my "Mexican Holy Trinity" which also includes Cisco's and Habanero Cafe.

I'll have to try Ciscos. I too like Habaneros and Tamale House on East 6th for breakfast...

Hi Tom

Congrats on the new shop!  I'm sure Mrs. B. is happy to have more room in the garage now!

Christina and I spent time in Austin in '93 . I wish I could remember enough to know where you're located now.

I like the sound of having a "tamale house" close by.

I spent a few weeks in Mexico this year.  First time.  I was blown away by the simplicity and boldness of their flavors.  I have a difficult time, and rarely eat, Mexican food in the states anymore.  Down by the border you guys do have a different style of Mexican though.  I've thoroughly enjoyed the Mexican food I've had in New Mexico.

Mexico is a big, very diverse country. The food from the Yucatan is very different from that of Oaxaca or Monterrey, or Mexico City. In Mexico City, you can find just about anything. Monterrey food has a big influence on Texas and the moles of Oaxaca are big here too. The Mexican seafood you get here doesn't have much resemblance to what you get in Cozumel. I'm not sure where those styles come from.

New Mexico's food has a lot in common with what's often called, "Tex-Mex". I spent weeks working at Los Alamos and staying in Santa Fe on an expense account. I had a lot of good food there and some that I literally left alone after the first couple of bites. The worst was raved about by many and I thought was one of the worst things I've eaten - duck quesadillas. I like duck but this was awful. It tasted like they used a shoveler that was sitting in the back of a pick up for a couple of days in the sun. The place I got that from had a sister restaurant in Houston at the time.

That'll work, Ron. There's an excellent BBQ trailer and also taco trailer a few steps away also.

Tom

Id be loving some decent tacos right about now

Jobsworth, I can confirm Tom was correct about the taco trailer a short walk from his shop.  I took the day off and drove over to visit Tom and collect on a previously entered order.  Tom treated me to lunch and a brew, took my money, and eventually.....more money....well, you guys know how it goes...

Tom's photos of his shop simply don't do justice!!!  His shop is well laid out and stocked.  For some reason, he wouldn't leave me unattended......  :)

Tom, enjoyed the visit, thanks again for lunch, we will have to do it again sometime down the road......

I was honored that you'd make the trip, Gary!

Please come by any time. Maybe next time, BBQ?
