I just heard about these systems that are manufactured here by Toronto Tool:

They are designed to support panels in the horizontal position with a circular saw or router sliding on a rail above the panel.

I plan to arrange to see  these (somewhere?) and will report back.  In particular I want to see the quality of the parts, whether or not Festool saws and routers can be mounted, and if they have metric scale alternatives (everything on their web site is in Imperial  :().

Frank,

look forward to hearing about what you see.  Years ago at some woodworking shows I saw what was basically a panel saw that was horizontal.  This is not that product, but it reminds me of a combination of that and a beam saw.

I can fill you in a little on the Pro-Cut 50. It is unlike any other machine in that it is designed to cross-cut and rip cut any board or panel up to 50" wide and of any length. Its design also allows you to rout in both the "X" and "Y" direction. Here is the video link The Pro-Cut 50 is a very popular machine and there is usually a waiting list to get one. At last count it is about 4 to 6 weeks.

It's an interesting concept. That said, I noticed in the video during the routing that there was a fair bit of vertical movement when tightening down between x and y direction changes. I wonder how that affects the quality of work produced?
