Toy oven - my very first fine woodworking

The last couple of weeks I have really put my Festools to use. I'm quite used to building larger objects (such as buildings). But I have been longing to craft some fine woodwork.
I'm satisfied with the project and it's finished on time (tomorrow is my 2-year-old's birthday).

Festool tools used:
- Plunge saw TF55
- Domino
- Router OF1010
- MFS
- MFT
- Kapex
- Planer
- Rotex 125
- TDK12

Thank you Jerry Work for your MFT and MFS documets. I've used them vastly.

Edit:
I might add that the material is birch playwood, solid birch and teak.

That is very nice work. You have a good grasp on use on the tools you have. The wood you used is awesome . I can not wait to see what you build when she is ten. :) Good job.

That's cool!  What a difference from all the mass-produced toy ovens other kids are stuck with!!  I'll bet you have friends who would swoon over something like this as a unique holiday present for their own kids.

PS: Don't think I didn't notice that you slipped a Kapex into your Festool tool list.  Does the NAINA taunting ever end?

Really great job. As a Dad I can appreciate the work and love that went into that piece. All I can wish for you is that strawberry jam is an excellent wood treatment for that teak.

Yes, strawberry jam will make a nice personal touch =) And you're right about the love that went into the piece. It makes it so much more fun to build things when you do it for your loved.

Eh hrm.. the Kapex.. that old machine. Have had it for ages. Who said Domino?? How did that thing get into my garage? It must have been such a bargain I didn't notice it slipping in the shopping basket =)

Thanks! Actually, he is a boy. We have two boys, a two-year-old and a five-year-old. The best they know of is to be in the garage carpenting.

WOW!!!  What a great 1st project...very impressive.  I can't speak for all but most woodworkers don't make a toy oven for there first project.  What was the inspiration (or as I like to say; perspiration) behind your choice.  Your boy is going to LOVE it!  30-40 hours at it, and the Hug is worth every second.

Yes, I am! Didn't realise it until you pointed it out.  Bummer!

But I've now done some testing (with my own fingers) and it is not as severe as it might look. I'll file down the part that moves. The static part is coverd with wood.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Any ideas on how I should have solved it? I wanted it to look nice, of course..

My wife thought we'd get him an oven since he loves to "help" in the kitchen. I said: No way.. I'll build one =) I'm not sure I'd have reacted that way if I knew what I was into.

I don't like haste work.. back side of that coin is that everything takes alot of time. I'm lucky this is only a hobby. Hourly salary would be next to nothing if I'd try to make a living of woodworking. But the front side of the coin is that I really like it. I can spend hour after hour in my garage only to solve a small problem within a larger project.

I've probably put 4 hours on the controll buttons alone. Which by the way looks like this from behind:

I was pointing out that it was better than I thought. Those things are pretty hard to install (4 me anyway). Didn't occur to me that it was dangerous either. I thought they were called knife hinges. Maybe that's why. I'll have to post some pictures of the new treehouse for safety review to be fair.
I guess you could have made a wooden knuckle hinge if you wanted to spend another thirty hours on it  ;D
Maybe a piano hinge?

Very nice job!!! Wish I had done the same thing when my children were younger.

What are you going to build next?

Where did you find a shopping basket to fit a KAPEX in North America  ;)

Actually, both my shop and my shopping basket is in Sweden.
It seems that Sweden is a great country when it come to early Festool deliveries =)

Next project:
Finish the shop building. I have to finish the electricity and put up the dry boards. And then it's time to gear up the shop with planer, jointer and a band saw.
