Track Storage

The link you provided shows a friction strip. Got a link for the splinter strip?

I try to position the TS on the good or keeper side. I put a couple crows foot on the waste or cut side of my mark to make it easier to find. It also helps with positioning the track as you can see the crows foot easier than the line which as said disappears when you bring the track up close for me with either the clear or the black splinter guard on either my DeWalt TS or the TSC55.

What about mobile storage?  I have been looking for something for my FSK420 guide rail for my HK saw.  It has plastic parts on the bottom if the guide rail and I definitely want to keep it protected.  I can’t justify spending $80 on the Festool bag just because it says festool on it.  Probably costs $10 to make, slap the logo on it and its now $80.  I just bought a off brand bag to store my (2) FS guide rails that are 55” and it sells for $22, made really well.  But i cant find a off brand for this specific rail.  So right now I use the box it came in.  I think the price festool sells their tools at are worth every penny.  However, their accessories I don’t get it at all.  So if anyone has come up with a mobile storage solution for FSK guide rails, let me know.  Right now I use the box it came in.

If you have a local upholsterer or sewing guild, you may be able to get something custom cut and made from cordura with a zipper.  Locally one-off might not be any cheaper than the official bag, though, depending on labor rates and material sourcing.

I'm guessing the width of the rail is what makes it harder to find something with a different logo on it.  I'm definitely interested in knowing what you find out, since I have a 420 also and it just hangs on a hook in my garage.  Luckily I haven't needed to transport it yet.

[member=7266]jeffinsgf[/member] - love the shelves.  That looks like 1/2" ply, correct?  How are the shelves attached to the back piece/supported? Are they just glued into a dado?

Are the Festool rail bags available in anything larger than 1400/55"? That's all I've seen.

Thanks. It's 9mm (3/8") Baltic Birch. The back is the same material.  Shelves are glued and stapled into dadoes in the back. French cleats to hang it on the wall. I've been living with it for a few weeks now, and so far, I love it. When they were on the counter, they invariably got covered up with other stuff. Now I don't have to dig them out when I want them.

Nice rack.

I discovered, this winter, that one of the reasons that the splinter strip comes off is doing the initial cut according to Festool's video. They say not to worry about cutting the ends.

They say that? I cut the strip flush on both ends on my previous track.

If they say that they are full of it. I had a LR32 rail that I NEVER used for cutting and the clear strip was never cut/trimmed or hardly ever even touched.  It only took about 6 months before it started peeling off.  THe only thing that might work to keep those on is 3M VHB primer.  We used to use it at my old shop and that stuff is pretty amazing when done correctly.  I have used the primer a few times when not using the VHB and it seems to work well helping other adhesives stick.  Its nasty stuff so make sure you use it outside.
