Hello group.  This topic has likely been discussed somewhere in the forum before but I am having some trouble finding a good thread on it.  Anyway, I am curious to know what you guys are using as a work table, presumably with a sacrificial surface (foam, scrap play, etc.) when breaking down sheet goods.  I realize there are a myriad of ways to accomplish this with all kinds of dollar values associated with them.

Searching around on line I ran across a really nice portable worktable from a company called "Benchmark".  Although pricey I was and am definitely in the market for one of these.  The only problem is that I believe the company is no longer in existence.  It would be great to find one still around but that is unlikely.

Let me know what you guys are using.

Thanks

Benchmark

I was carrying the 4x8's up four flights and then lying them down on three 2x4's on the floor. Then I'd cut them down with my track saw.  Wow, that was difficult!  Not getting any younger.
Now, I rough cut everything on the sidewalk with a cheapo cordless circular saw and saw horses from Harbor Freight and fine cut the smaller boards on the MFT upstairs.  There will be no lumber deliveries for me in the rain or snow, though.

A fair amount of people here on FOG speak highly of using a sheet or large piece of rigid foam, even laying it on the floor and working off of that if you're up for it. Lightweight, portable, and doesn't cost that much.
If you're right on the floor, just watch your blade depth when cutting....Concrete is tough on sawblades.  [wink]
Personally, I'd rather be up from the floor on a table, so my vote would be a table or sawhorses. I bought an older MFT800, which is small, but very sturdy. The height is a bit low, but if you're making your own table or sawhorses, you can build to suit your personal needs with regards to height.  Use the foam sheet as your cutting surface, and you're pretty low cost.

Harbor Freight makes a sturdy folding and height adjustable saw horse (item # 69059) for $25 that will match the height of the MFT.

Hi,

Welcome to the FOG!  [smile]

What I recall from another thread on the Benchmark is that it isn't really available for some reason in the US, as pugilato said.  If you do a search on FOG  for benchmark , you will get four or five threads on it.

Cheap folding plastic saw horses, a sheet of 1/2 plywood, and four 2" thick 24" x 48" Syrofoam panels.
