I need a new one or rebuild mine. My mechanic is telling me to go with a jasper transmission.

I need to go with a heavy duty one as I tow more than 10,000lb and live in the mountains.

So I thought I would put it out to some opinions on what "brand", "rebuild shop" to go with.

At one time I found a place I was wanting to go with. Now I can't seem to find them on the web any more and I don't remember their name.

Also any opinions on what type of lockers to go with being I have a two wheel drive.

The Jasper brand is big here, but they also originate from here too. Jasper, Indiana is probably 30 or so miles from me.

Can't help you there, but I've been waiting for mine to go out since I bought it. (99 ram 4x4 long bed quad cab). Right after I got I noticed that the transmission would "hesitate" - only way I can describe it when under stress. Think of that commute from Co. Springs back to Denver on 85, having to pass a slow poke quickly before you lose your straight away.

Unfortunately, could never get it to do that with a mechanic in the truck, so they thought I was crazy. It still does it to me on our local "big hill", which is the same grade as the Eisenhower tunnel (but not as long). Still 130K miles now and holding up for some reason.

BTW, how many miles did you get out of it?

This is the second transmission and I have 330,000 Miles on the truck. The first one died at about 165,000 miles and this one works as long as I shift 1,2,D then it pulls just fine. I have pulled heavy trailers (both bumper pull and fifthwheels) all across North America Many times.

I have been reading online reviews and they don't give good reports about jasper transmissions.

Or the brakes! I think I get 25k out of the fronts if I'm lucky. Fortunately, it's just my weekend warrior now, maybe 200 miles a month.
