Traveling in Germany

I'm over in Germany for the first (and probably last for the next decade or three) time. I was in Munich for a day and now in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for a few more then back to Munich. I'm here on leisure while my wife works.

One of my goals was to find a Festool dealer to pop in and see what they have on home turf. That turned out to be a lot harder than I anticipated. The Festool. De dealer search isn't very useful in deciphering which dealers actually carry a sizable inventory. With limited time I tried the only one listed in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and was pretty let down after walking 2km in the rain. Shop didn't speak English and had a very limited selection. Well today I rented a car and set out to try one more place 40km away. First time driving manual in over 5 years, pouring rain, and first time driving in Europe. Thankfully Google had my back with directions. After an hour I arrived and again was immediately let down. Feeling defeated I decided to look for a Harley dealer to at least get a shirt for a friend back home. On the way was a Festool dealer that I wasn't even really considering. Boy was I wrong. Great guys, very friendly, and no trouble communicating with me. I would be beyond broke if they were nearby at home. I picked up a twin box I was after and a German catalog. But I may be back for more before the end of my trip... Onto the pictures.

You need to pinch yourself and make sure you have not died and gone to heaven!

What was the name/address of this place?  I want to note this for future trips, looks like they have a nice selection of tools!

I was in Garmisch 3 years ago, but Festool-ing isn't my wife's idea of fun (go figure!), so I didn't get the opportunity to do that kind of sight seeing.  Maybe next time.

Looks like you found what you are looking for. :)

Unfortunately it is a hit and miss with the dealers here in Germany, as anywhere they stand and fall by the motivation of the staff.
I too have mostly found hidden and unexpected gems of knowledgeable, well trained dealers where not expected.
Most of the times, I even buy a tool from my wishlist, to repay their efforts on the spot, if possible.

I hope you have fun visiting our country. [emoji2][emoji482]

Wow !! What a find.  Those Mafell Erika systems look sweet.  If I had stumbled in there, I'd be broke  [big grin]

I've been to Jena and Oberkochen, but never got to go tool shopping :(

One more thing, if you tire of German food, there is an Italian restaurant called Colosseo that has really good pizza with a view.  I get happy just thinking about it!  [smile]

I just left Germany, finishing off a three week European trip in Paris.  I didn't get to look for tools in Germany and somehow Paris doesn't seem like the right place to look.

Just go there after 11:00 am tomorrow.

You can drop her off at the beach38, just behind the tool shop. White sand, a drink to sip, you‘ll have a couple of hours on your own... ;)

Nice post and enjoy in Germany. [smile]
However if you are going back to Munich, you might want to visit Dictum shop.

Haager Str. 9, 2. Floor
D - 81671 Munich

I was literally 2 streets away on Muehldorfstrasse and didn't even know it was there.  There's a missed opportunity.  From the look, I would have loved it.

Would have likely gotten quite expensive though ;)

Just curious what the difference is between the two Centrotec chucks?

I think the orange one is the older Protool chuck prior to Festool rebranding from Protool to Festool.

In ProTool times, there was also a bit centrotec (Max?).
Those are also sometimes to be found in the stores...

Larger diameter of drive on the machine for high power applications.

And heavy.  I'm already right at 49 lbs for the trip back to the US.

I would love to go there, it's walkable from my hotel but my alone time has ended.  [big grin]
By being that close, it is almost a sin you do not want to give a visit. [smile]
And if I were you and had to rent a car I would drive to Markneukirchen about 4 hours from Munich to visit Warwick factory.
No it is not a tool store but you can see a lot of tools and enjoy a well made custom bass and guitars!
Here, you can visit them on line by clicking on factory tour virtual 360° and keep clicking on eye to get in different rooms.
