here are pictures of a small tv cabinet I just built.  All Oak.  The tv is mounted on a piece of plywood and then screwed through the ply to the back of the tv.  then I used some 1x2 that I attached the ply to and then framed out the tv showing no END grain on the frame.

Then I got the brilliant idea to do recessed doors  (lol)  used blum 35 mil cup hindges

added a pull out that was mounted onto 15" tandum drawer slides with an angled dvd cd holder.  I cut a 22 degree angle on it.

wish I had thought of it before I built cab so I could have adjusted the upper shelf a little higher and then 2 rows of stuff could have sat up and not laid down.. oh well it still was cool and will when I make another one will adjust it better now that I am an expert !

i used most of my festools,  ts55, kapex.  mft 3  domonio etc.  enjoy  oh  no Beadboard on this one !

Kreg,

That's very nice, but how close is the frame around the TV? You mentioned that the TV is mounted to a piece of ply - I'd be very concerned about how blocked in the air vents are, if it's pretty much completely closed in that TV is going to get very hot, very quickly! Is it an LCD or plasma? LCDs will take a little bit of heat (though not much for long periods), but heat will destroy a plasma in no time.

the back is open and all the vents are cut out on the ply and there is a 1" gap around the tv and the face frame.. it is a lcd  tv  so I have left plenty of room for heat removal but thanks for mentioning that to heads up others about tv.  also the ply is only 32"  wide as the tv is 47"

I love it Honey. Its always refreshing when someone makes a nice Plasma/LCD cabinet that the telly isnt just  plonked on top. Full marks 10 out of 10

Nice work.  I have one of these on my to-to list since our projection TV died in late 2009 and we replaced it with a LCD model.  The coffee table was sacrificed to TV stand duty but it is a bit too low.  The coffee table was my first woodworking project since 8th grade shop and was built in 1980 and my wife wants it back as a coffee table.
