I have a OF 1400 but now I need a table mounted router.  Considering a Triton 3 1/4 hp in a Woodpecker table with Incra LS positioner.  What are pros and cons of this kind of setup vs a  Porter Cable or other router with a PRL lift?

Thanks for your advice.

I can't give you  pros and cons, I have the Triton setup on an Bench Dog extension to my table saw, it has worked great.  I especially like the above table adjustment feature.

Dave,

I have the exact same setup to the "T". I like it a lot. The only downside  to a lift is that you do have to make adjustments from under the table. If you have any questions about the setup, feel free to contact me!

I believe that the Triton 2.25 hp has all the power you will ever need and that is what I use in my home made router table.  I have used with with some very large bits and I claim that there is absolutely no need to move up to the Triton 3.25 hp. The 2.25 hp that I have supports above the table fine adjustment and very easy router bit changing.

I hook the Triton up to my Festool vacuum and the dust collection is not bad. Here are a couple of photos:

About a month ago I put my Milwaukee 5625 router in a Woodpeckers Side Winder lift and it is terrific.  Easy to change bits above the table, and you make macro changes in bit height with the lift handle that protrudes through the top, and micro adjustments with the Side Winder handle.  The LS positioner is also great for precise, repeatable cuts.
Good luck.

I have a Triton router in a home made table, and it works well.  Although I can adjust height through the table with the included winder, I have easy access to the usual adjusters under the table, and generally use them.

I tend to lock the height rather than rely on friction holding it, as I have had occasions when it has dropped slightly over use.

It's not Festool quality, but it's certainly great value and I'd struggle to justify replacing it with a differ router.  I use a DeWalt 621 (old) and an OF1400(new) for hand held.  I don't recommend the Triton for hand held, it's just too cumbersome.

I hope this helps.

i had the triton 2 1/4 router and at first liked it as it had and easy way to raise and lower.  but it does not have enough power to run raised panel bits.  in fact within a year of using it and not alot... it burned up and smoked for at least 10 minutes and then it was all done.]

also had the 3 1/2 one but changing bits was a pain and the up and down knob was a pain.  i know use the porter cable 3 1/2 and love it and it works great.

so that is my 5 cents worth

I have the Triton 2+ h.p. model in a homemade table and it worked fine for a while but after a moderate amount of use the gears that enable you to raise and lower it from above the table stripped out.  This has rendered it very awkward to use. Now it just sits there in the corner, not worth repairing in my mind. An inexpensive tool that does not work is never a good value,  I won't buy another.

I bought a 3 1/4 h.p. Porter cable and put it in the cast iron Bench Dog lift. This works fantastic, although much more expensive.

Jason,

When you had it mounted in the table, did you remove the spring that counterbalances it when it's the right way up?  If not, I think you'll find that's what stripped the gears.  If I remember correctly, Triton were offering to repair them foc.

Andrew

Yes; I had removed the spring as per the manual, but I did not know that they were offering to fix it foc. I will look into that. Thanks
