the new electronics in the ETS EC 125/3 Sander include a dust collection hose connection sensing function.
Between the translation of the German User Manual and severasl FOG members and a couple of FESTOOL dealers I have not found anyone familiar with this function.

I most likely just have an "operator problem" rather than an equipment problem but need some help to point me int he right direction. Anyone out ther in  in FOGland have one of these new technology gems and knows how to set it up? [embarassed]

Here is the extract from the UK manual:

Switching the extractor signal ON/OFF

The extractor signal is supplied in a deactivated state.
Switch on power tool by briefly pressing the ON/ OFF button [1-1].
Switch off the power tool again and hold down the ON/OFF button [1-1].
Power tool beeps once.
Turn speed control [1-2] to both end positions (Level 1 and 6).

Power tool beeps three times for ON and twice for OFF.

 Release ON/OFF button [1-1].

Extractor signal is activated or deactivated.

Hope this helps

Dale, thanks for trying,
the US manual has essentially the same text. Either I misunderstand the text or there is something wrong with my newly purchased tool.
Perhaps I can fins someone in our time zone who has one of these tools and can talk me trough the set-up.

stay tuned :)

Eric

thanks Eric,
your videos are always very clear and get the point across - I had not seen this one before and your reference to the time slot on the video was a helpful touch. This video should be noted in the instructions which come with the tool.
This forum is such a valuable additional benefit to owning FESTOOL products.

Phil, always glad to hear from our UK friends!
your video pointed out some features/benefits of the ETS EC 125  that I did not realize when I bought the tool - so thanks for the additional insight:
choice of soft, medium and hard disc.
Adapter for contour sanding

I had not progressed past the dust collection hose feature so, after trying the hose interlock control I will finish reading the rest of the manual . . .
thanks
Hans

[member=41214]Phil Beckley[/member] , I like this sander from afar.

As Festool further develop their products and having once demolished a sanding pad surface on my RO 150; I think a feature that turned a sander off if no sanding disc is attached would be more worthwhile than one that told you if you had/had not attached a more 'obvious' hose. But then again, if this hose feature is a direct result of OH&S issues, why not both detection features.

I think a big intended user base for the ETS EC sanders is automative painting, where this hose detection feature is of much more importance than to woodworkers, etc.

my Sander is on its way back to FESTOOL for warranty repair (free shipping).
Looks like  I lucked out - no operator error this time.
I expect it back next week.
