Alas, my 12 year old CT22 suffered some abuse and suction is much lower than normal. The interior of the chamber that holds the bag has a crack. I sealed it temporarily with clear packing tape, but intend to use metallic tape used to seal HVAC ducts. While things seem all sealed up now, suction is still low. Say about half or so of normal. I don't know how long this crack was around. I removed all filters and even the bag and suction does not improve. Motor sounds very strong. Any ideas on a troubleshooting order I could apply here to rule in or out causes? If the diagnosis is terminal, it was certainly not the tools fault and it was one of the most used tools in my shop for 12-13 years.

I'm with guybo, check the hose for blockages. Small metal & wood curls can accumulate and restrict the flow. Depending upon the size of the hose you're using, I just place a large socket on the end of a 1/2" drive extension and then move that through the hose. Gravity is your friend and just keep raising the hose above your head and the socket & extension will continue to move through the hose until it reaches the obstruction. Even then if you just shake it that's sometimes enough to dislodge the obstruction.

Thanks you two. I should have been more clear. Hose is not the problem. It is clear and I have tried multiple hoses. Without a hose the suction at the vac is low. I'm going to play with it more tomorrow, while listening to the Detroit Lions blow a lead - sounds like the perfect Sunday!
[member=5251]Deke[/member] another spot to check would be the inlet on the vac. The port where the hose gets inserted is a tube that runs from the front of the vac into the tub and is the attachment spot for the bag in the tub.
Admittedly it’s not very long but it could also get blocked like a hose.

If you stick your finger into the blower port on the lower left side to push open the flap, do you get a full volume of air or is that also low?

Does it make less noise than usual? That is, do you think the motor is running slower than normal?
Only two reasons for the suction to be diminished, the motor is slower or there is a partial blockage. If no actual debris, and the motor is running at full speed, maybe the main filter is clogged.

Actually add a third reason - I just found additional cracks in the inside of the bag chamber around the other side wheel axle. This was the source of poor suction. I patched it up with some duct tape and it is running very well, but I might try to sort of "bondo" it up to see if that works. The part, the "chassis" is $160. Better than $800 for a new vac I suppose. This vac works perfectly otherwise. Sorry for all the back and forth. I think someone, not me, dropped the vac very hard resulting in the back wheels cracking that part of the chassis of the vac.
