I bought a recon TS55 a long time ago (maybe 2015?) and it worked great in sheet goods and hardwood for years. At some point in the last few years, I tried to drive it too hard through solid surface. It made some smoke, and a lot of smell, sounded weird for years, but it didn't really die until last month. It completely quit. I talked to a nearby tool repair place that had recently stopped being a Festool dealer (because of supply issues, both parts and new tools). The owner said that saws sent in to Festool for repair were getting a flat rate estimate of, you might guess this number, $400.
The tool mechanic told me that my best bet would be to replace the brushes first and see if that worked. If not, tear it down farther and determine if the armature was damaged. I ordered brushes, but they haven't shipped yet. I priced the armature and another part, I think it's a cover or something. The grand total for the worst-case scenario parts was something around $150. I figured I'd go that route, because it's cheaper than a new saw, Festool or otherwise.
