My TS 75 arrives in less than an hour...

This will be my first track saw, I work mainly in hardwoods and cut very little sheet goods therefore I opted for the 75.

Is there anything I should do to it straight out the box before I have a play?

Thanks

Ian

Check blade for parallel to rail and check that it cuts square.  I had to adjust mine so that it and my 55 both cut at the same distance to the rail but that was no big deal.

Once you get rid of the slop between the saw and rail, as already stated, the main issue is to check for true 0 and 45.  Try to use as thick a stock as possible for the test.  On the 0, rip a board down it's length, and then flip it 180 degrees and butt it against the other board on the cut side and see if there are any gaps in the joint.  Do same thing for 45, but use a square you trust to test if the resulting mating pieces give you a 90 degree angle.

Mr. Reno nailed it.  Make few cuts as he suggested and check it.  The tricky part is getting it perfectly mated to the rail.  Put the saw on the rail and put your hands on the base not the handle or blade cover. wiggle it side to side adjusting the green gibs to make the saw slide easily without any play.  I do this by hearing and not by sight.  you'll hear it tick when wiggled if it's loose. It should take very little effort to slide the saw on the rail.  it should feel like pushing the weight of the saw and not having to overcome how tight it is.  it's easier to slide the saw along the rail than it is to slide the saw across a board.  You've just purchased a fantastic saw!  Good luck with it.  The splinter guard on the rail needs to be cut through.  ALWAYS keep the green knobs on the rail when cutting. meaning your splinter guard will have "nubs" on each end where the saw shoudln't go.

Thanks for the top tips.

It arrived, but is still in the box, too much else on today.  Will perhaps give it a shot tomorrow.
