Hey guys, was wondering if the blade on my TS  75 can be re-sharpened? Does festool service do this?

Thanks

Long before I purchased my first Festools I had formed a close business relationship with an outstanding grinding and sharpening service. When I started looking for a large industrial building which as been the location of my shop since 2010, being close to my sharpening service was a big consideration.

The day I handled a TS55 for the first time, I also studied the different blades, noticing the teeth are not evenly spaced. My dealer explained this was to prevent harmonic disturbance, so I asked if that feature complicate sharpening. My dealer answered that he knew of a service with which Festool USA had already consulted. It turned out that was my long-time sharpening vendor.

Someone else will need to say if in Canada Festool does your sharpening.

Shawn, I use a great sharpening service here in Charleston, SC.  Don't know if he ships, but pm me if ypu want his contact info.

I swear the blades come back sharper than when I first purchased them.

Shawn, of course not.  Here is the information:

LA Grinding
305 N Victory BLVD
Burbank, CA  91502
818 846-9134 M-F 8 AM- 4 PM Pacific Time

These folks have taken great care of me for over 50 years.

Tom B is a great fellow, a marvelous Festool dealer and has never steered me wrong.

When Tom says Leitz is Festool's contract manufacturer of their circular saw blades, I am absolutely sure he is correct.

When I purchase Festool brand blades I could care less in which factory they are made, because I have faith they are made to exacting Festool specifications and are inspected by Festool technicians.

It well could be that Leitz has a sharpening facility close to you. They have an excellent reputation.

Mind you, to effectively sharpen Festool blades for the Kapex, TS55 and TS75 the shop needs modern equipment. But the same can be said for most top-quality blades, bits, drills and machine knives.

Once I tried an experiment, just to be sure LA Grinding was doing a marvelous job. I sent a TS55 Fine Tooth blade to another grinding service with a good reputation and within a half-hour drive. That was the second re-sharpening of the blade. After waiting 5 working days for a call saying my blade was ready, and hearing nothing, I phoned that other firm. They said they needed a few more days and would call me when it was ready for pick-up. A week later they did call. The price was slightly higher than I was paying LA Grinding, but there I am a high-volume customer. I expected to pay more the first time I tried a different service. Unfortunately after taking so long, that other service had damaged my blade. Trust me, I have blades re-sharpened before most folks would consider they need it. That blade fresh from re-sharpening cut far worse than when I took it in. I explained to LA Grinding about the experiment. For just the price of a normal re-sharpening they repaired the damaged blade.

Compared to the far larger blades I use on my slider table saw and the somewhat larger blades I use on my beam saw, re-sharpening the TS55 blades is far less expensive. The purchase price of the TS55 blades is also less. But, I still need excellent blades to make excellent cuts.

I didn't mean to suggest that there aren't a lot of good blade repair/sharpening services and finding one like LA Grinding is certainly a plus. I would have no qualms using them after such a hearty recommendation. I would have no qualms using any of the Leitz facilities either.

Since the OP is in BC, I thought he might try Leitz because they have a facility in Kent WA.

Call a couple of local cabinet shops and ask where they get their blades sharpened.  Most sharpeners now have CNC and will do an excellent job.

As always Brother Tom, this is a valid point. Does Leitz also have a facility in Eastern Canada? Or is my mind getting foggy?

Jesse, when LA Grinding uses me as a reference, and a stranger on the phone asks me about them, I give a glowing report.

However, if a stranger calls, without an introduction, I tend to be vague. To me really good sources are a trade secret. When a person calls from Palm Springs, Las Vegas or Fresno, I figure they are not viable business competitors. If a person local to me reads about LA Grinding on FOG, good for them, but then a fellow FOG member is not to me a stranger.

One in Ontario and one in Quebec.

Tom

So I am not completely out of my mind. Recently my kids claimed I am at a state of age where I can effectively hide my own Easter eggs.

Ontario and Quebec are a greater distance than Kent, WA USA, but using those might save some customs delays.

The Science channel did an episode on How It's Made featuring circular saw blades. It was done in a Leitz plant, and one of the blades they showed at the end of the segment had a Festool label on it.

Leitz's NA base is 20 min from my house, I've driven past it many times!
I looked on their site but couldn't really find a "storefront" that you can walk in a purchase or get sharpening done.  anyone dealt with them?

Spoke with Leitz today.
For Canadians the cost per blade is $12usd but they will only do $35usd + worth of work at a time. So I would need to send in 3 blades at a time. They said I would get them back Factory Sharp and Factory Performance. The guy I spoke with was very good to deal with. The Canadian Leitz service number is 1-800-764-9663. Shipping info is

That is a pretty decent deal I think. I pay $15 a blade 10" and 60, 80 tooth.
I will give GR a call next week, thanks!
