Cutting the ends off of some walnut slabs. Across 4' of cut, blade deflects enough to the right to start eating the housing. [blink]

What should I look at first?

Is it possible that a good way to solve this would be to cut 2" on one side then 2" on the other side? Or, if the track is secured in place without fear of moving, produce the cut with a series of passes. First pass, go only 1.5" deep, and so on.

I would check to make sure the blade is properly installed first. The blade should never come close to that much deflection, there should be virtually no deflection.

Agreed, it shouldn't.

Pulled the blade... Whatever the root cause, blade riding full note against the wood has cooked the blade, which is now dished, which is causing further deflection. Bah, phooey. [mad]

Off to spend $80...

It does sound like you were giving the saw a good spanking [unsure]

Well, 12/4 Walnut is a lot to push through. Once I figured out what was up, I stopped.

Wondering if I can get the saw plate flattened, or if I should just weld it to a stick for killing bears...

That would only give the bear something to throw back, Tom. :-)

New blade was deflecting, too. Just adjusted for toe-in, (there was none)  hopefully that does it...
