Chalk this one up to user stupidity, or at least someone rushing to finish a project before Thanksgiving.  [mad]

A piece broke off the right rear edge of the guide plate when the saw fell on the ground, taking with it part of the knob assembly that gives a snug fit on the rail.  The saw seems otherwise ok, as the plate took the brunt of the fall.

Fortunately I'm only inconvenienced rather than out of commission, since I can work off the TS75.

I see the full guide plate comes as a separate unit on EKAT (no. 68: 500912), but is this something that can be swapped out by the user, or will it need a trip back to service to get mounted and calibrated?

Wy not "have a go"?
It is not like you are gong to ruin it, and you can always send it in it you need to.

No reason he can't do both, breaking a tool is not under warranty as far as I know so repairing his own tool will be cost effective against shipping, parts and shop time/labor to have Festool make the repair.
Unless he feels calibration of the unit is worth the extra cost of shipping it to the shop.

I'll check with service on Monday to see if replacing the plate is permissible wit out voiding the warranty, and then make a determination from there. If its doable, i would much rather try myself first. Dont mind spending time with the tools one bit.  I already have two fixes under my belt with swapping out a severed cord on the of2200 and replacing the depth stop rod on the 1400.

Just got off the phone with Brad at Festool service, and learned that they will handle all the shipping and labor costs associated with the repair, only charging me for the unit cost of a new base plate.  This was welcome news, as I thought it being a case of user error would make me responsible for shipping and labor charges, even though the tool is still under warranty, which is why I briefly entertained doing the fix myself.  So another victory for Festool service and customer loyalty.
