Hey all I have a question regarding the newer Festool track saw with scoring blade. I am new to track saws and I bought this model. My understanding is that i need to trim the tracks flush to the blade before I can start using it.

Does anyone know if there are any considerations that need to be made for the scoring blade while trimming the track? I see nothing on the site about this specific model, and I am concerned that if I even run a test pass with the scoring blade active it will trim off too much of the track. Does anyone have any insight or suggestions?

I'd recommend checking the Festool live episode(s) on YouTube, I believe they cover initial setup.

But to put your mind at ease, the strip can be moved out at least once and they sell a decently priced replacement roll if it gets to that.

Hey Foy - I just got my first piece of Festool with the TSV 60 with scoring. Did you set it up yet? I haven't set mine up yet, but was wondering how it went for you. I bought the kit with the FS 1900 and also bought the hole kit with the 1400 rail. Do you know if I need to connect them and run the saw along both at the same time for initial set up? Or can I run it on each one separately. Thanks!

[member=4788]Sean G[/member] You can definitely trim the tracks as individual units. Then if you ever want to connect them, that little piece that wasn't trimmed will just get cut at that time. It doesn't hurt a thing. The only real reason to trim the splinter guard before moving on to actual parts is that the cut edge is your cut line. You can align that splinter strip to a pencil mark and expect it to cut exactly there, once it has been trimmed.

Thanks a lot, [member=58857]Crazyraceguy[/member]. I watched sedgetool's video on setting it up, using the business card in front and behind the blade to make sure it's lined up correctly, and followed his instructions on trimming the track. A follow up question I have for you is now that it's set, and I can use it as my cut line, can the same be said if you change blades? Do you need to recalibrate with a new splinter guard?

[member=4788]Sean G[/member] No. As long as you stick with blades of the same width (thickness) you are fine. They did think that far into it. Of course, the TS60 is a new model, so there aren't any variants yet, no worries.
The TS55 does have a few differences, with blades as thick as 2.4mm and later versions at 1.6mm. Having the correct blade matters there. That situation won't come up for you.
