Turbo Suction Brush (450644) -- Worth it?

More and more I've been using my CT26 to clean my house -- makes the job nominally less distasteful.  Wondering how the Turbo suction brush performs on carpets vs. your standard vacuum cleaner with a beater bar (I have a 20 yr old Kenmore), and whether it's ultimately worth the $135?  Would also use it at jobsite on occasion -- would have come in handy today when I was staring at the dirty carpet in the courtroom I've been installing.

EDIT: Or at that price, should I consider stepping up to the Fein electric version?  http://www.amazon.com/Fein-PB350-Electric-Floor-Brush/dp/B00005Q7C1

I have a ct midi setup with a 7 meter x 36mm hose, aluminum wand and the turbo suction brush at my house.

When I first got it I vacuumed the 2nd floor of my house with a regular vacuum, then revacuumed with the festool setup...  What a difference.  The festool picked up an amazing amount, especially considering I just vacuumed a few minutes prior.

Short version, yes it is worth it!!

Quick note, you MUST use a 36mm hose with this attachment.

To echo what Ken said, while at Festool we would use the Turbo Brush to clean up at tradeshows where there was a lot of chips and fine dust (from demo'ing how effective dust extractors are by using the tool without it connected). It did a phenomenal job of cleaning up the carpets after each day.

It's pricey, but if you're like me and work inside clients homes or any finished space, it's worth the price.  It's not so much that it works well (although it does), it's that I don't have to fool with oddball pieces to make it fit my Festool stuff.

I will add that the turbo brush needs airflow which rules out the 27 mm hose.  Big hose rules and makes all the difference.  Tom has a video around with the sound differences (which relates to rotation and suction) between the smaller and larger hoses with the brush.

Eureka maxi turbo brush is half the price, looks identical without the festool markings.

^I like the way you think^.

I use a Miele job from a vacuum that carc'ed it, which can be stuffed onto the end of the CT26's hose.
It is a carpet attachement and does the job on carpets.

I'm not sure but I believe it has a different diameter connection than the Festool version.

Man I just checked the price of that turbo brush in Aus, $278. Wonder how many of those they sell?
I use a dyson turbo brush that came with the wife's vacuum cleaner that she didn't need. Just had to buy an adaptor for it. I'm sure if you contacted a vacuum specialised they could supply a turbo brush for a lot less.

Thanks.  Have the 36mm hose so no problem.  But does it work even better with the 50mm hose?

There is a diminishing return on size.

You want enough velocity to encourage the crap to work its way to to the vacuum (i.e. small diameter), but enough size to not be loosing energy to viscosity losses, nor getting log jams of debris (i.e. larger).

Got it.  Thanks.

That's interesting. Eureka is an Electrolux brand, I was pretty sure the Festool was one made by Nilfisk...given that almost all the other accessories are Nilfisk. You're right though, all three look identical. Maybe there's some cooperation on their end with parts sharing.

Unforunately the demo videos I've found on the internet aren't that impressive, it leaves a lot of the smaller dust behind, and even repeated passes don't help it seems. It doesn't seem to compare to my cordless Dyson, that's for sure.

edit this video:
nevermind, this doesn't seem to be the same vac head!

Miele has a few turbo brushes as well, which are highly regarded. I'm not sure how they all fall within the category though.

This Electrolux one looks pretty impressive for fine dust.

I had used a turbo brush years ago and thought that it was better than a standard carpet head but when I got an electric powered head it was miles better than the turbo. Since then all of my vacuums have had a powered head. My Nilfisk head was made by a third party and sold as a Nilfisk accessory so I am sure that you would be able to find a powered head to fit the CT hose.

[member=36526]Bohdan[/member] How are you powering the head? Is it standard 240v?

Most the ones I've seen in this country have a special 2-prong interface for the powered heads, I'm unsure whether there's a transformer to convert to another voltage or if it's AC/DC. Are there heads available that are powered separately?

The Nilfisk head ran off a separate 230v cable which had a double adaptor to connect to the vac cord. The Dyson head is powered by a proprietary Dyson hose ie. the cord is inside the hose

There is little doubt it is a usefull item.

The question of whether it is really worth the $135 is seen in a whole different light when you realise that very same turbo brush without the Festool logo costs only €59,99 at my local vac shop.

You got it!

Which model is it?
I might need one as the Miele one is getting a bit dodgy, and I have had it apart a few times.
