Hi,

I've been looking at the CT 48 E AC HEPA for a long time, but I'd really like to get a type H/H14 given the prevalence of Asbestos in my area (Ottawa) / home (I always have it professionally removed when it's pipe wrap/stucco/large quantities, but sometimes it sneaks up on you in a skim coat). The festool doesn't seem to be available as a type H in Canada.

To anyone that has both, what would be the disadvantage of a Husqvarna DE110S (https://www.husqvarnaconstruction.com/ca-en/dust-and-slurry-equipment/de110sh/) vs the Festool CT 48? I've been able to find them within a couple hundred of each other, so price isn't a major issue. My use case is a complete remodel of an edwardian, 30s reno is the culprit for the bad stuff, and long term use in wood working as a hobby (build my own stairs/furniture etc... but far from continual use).

Thank you,
Patrick

For a start off I'll say I have neither so perhaps u qualified to comment but I do have a CTM 26 AC which is M rated and Ive used M rated ectractors by q few other manufacturers (Bosch, Hilti and one I can't remember) and the fact that they don't have a space to fit the toolboxes on top, the way the Bosch has a weird clip system to join the tool that only works with their tools and the lack of bluetooth extractor activation was a right pain in the neck when using a cordless saw.

For my usage the Festool was waaay better and I'm no Festool fanboi, there's some of their tools I wouldnt want given.

That’s not an ‘H’ rated vacuum (H doesn’t stand for ‘Hepa’). A class H vacuum has a highly specific filter system (ULPA) which will capture particles down to 0.1 microns - an order of magnitude greater than standard class L or class M vacuums. Looking at the specs, the Husqvarna’s a regular class L with a standard HEPA filter. If you want to go down the full-on class H route, you’ll need very deep pockets ….

Thanks for the feedback:
Demographic,
You're absolutely right, that for a daily use case the husqvarna would not be as convenient to use as the festool and wouldn't come close in terms of accessories for woodworking. It's really the H class filtering that's most appealing (not just for asbestos but also lead paint).

Woodbutcherbower:
The manual for this model says class H ("This device is H-classified, certified by a third party according to IEC-60335-2-69, EN-60335-2-69 Annex AA.") as does the literature for the whole lineup. It does have an H13 filer as opposed to an H14, which I found surprising.
I agree that in general H class extractors are very expensive, but I have seen some at similar price points (a metabo model for instance). I don't know enough to comment on whether or not they are not truly H class if they are listed that way.

Thanks again very much for the input, hoping to get on the festool train soon, but I'm still a bit fixated on the higher safety level.

[member=82727]pavszlanta[/member] Ah - in that case, my apologies, and I stand corrected. It’s strange that there’s no mention of the classification on the Husqvarna webpage description. FWIW I was searching around for the H-class Festools (CTH26 etc.) but they have been removed from the UK website. I wonder why?

I hope you get fixed up.

Thank you, yeah the H class festool would have been perfect but it seems like they're out of that at least in my region.
