Looks like the NYC Tiny Shop is going mobile.  Wha'dah!  [scared]

Can anyone please tell me the height of the UG stand's wheels? Wasn't listed in specs. Thanks.

How is it on stairs?

I need to be able to get up and down stairwells with my Kapex. No elevator for two jobs. ( Yes, I'm now working on weekends, outside of the shop.)

Any, yes any, advice on handcart mobile kits is very welcome.

Should I get a CT mini vac?

The wheels on both the UG and the Sys-Roll appear to be 200mm diameter. They are likely the same part but I didn't look it up and don't have them side-by-side.

I've hauled both of them up and down stairs and steps. I haven't found them to be a problem but I try not to do it carelessly.

Tom

I think I just digested what you meant about "hand-cart" your "rig".

Are you talking about walking to the site in The City? If so, how many blocks?

You could, conceivably, take the UG and SYS-ROLL, one in each hand. It could be interesting - especially at curbs.

Ha, yes, Tom. I'm at 74th and Columbus and my most of my clients are on the Upper Westside. The next one is at 80th and Broadway. Yes, shlepping a workshop...one step smaller than my Tiny Shop! The opposite of a " everythang is bigger in Texas" situation.

My wife is from Queens (later, Little Italy) and we've put down a lot of miles on that island. I wouldn't hesitate to take one or the other (UG or SYS-ROLL) for a stroll in The City. It would be challenging to do them in tandem but it could be done.

I'm very curious to hear more when you try it.

'JES to be perfecKly clAEAr, Texas is bigger'en FrAInce... ANNN, AAr Capitol is bigger'en that thar one in DaayyCaayy. Plus, it's made OTT'a pink grAInnut.

Tom,
How did you both end up in Texas? I went to NTSU for music 1980-83 and played a lot through out the south. Fun times.
All the build jobs are on the upper westside. I want to figure out a rig to walk to jobs.

BTW, are you tax-free for NYC?

I met my wife after she and her friend from NY moved here. Her Dad, a couple of sisters and bro' still live there. I've lived in Texas almost my whole life other than being born in Fargo and working in Europe for a couple of years.

I'm tax free except TX for Festool, Stabila, CMT, VETO, Micro-Jig and a few others. My website will add tax for some other states because of drop-ship nexuses but I adjust it for the products stated and a few others that I handle myself out of Texas.

You should get a Segway and find a way to hitch a trailer, then you would have a way to move your stuff to the job site, that would be the ultimate NYC mobile shop!

I have occasionally been seen rolling a stack of Systainers on a CT Midi around the South Side of Chicago. Not so hot on stairs, but fine on sidewalks. Of course if you have one of them there fancy buggies it can only go better.  [wink]

That is funny.  I see quite a few freaks on segways.  Now, that would be a sight...segway, Kapex, sysroll, cowboy hat!

Texas is a great state. Miss it. NYC is better for me, though.  Where in Texas are you, Tom? I lived in Denton for three years.

I'm "Deep in the Heart of Texas". That would be Austin.

I first lived in far south Texas and grew up in Houston. I've spent months in the DFW area working and by far prefer Austin. I suspect I'm not alone because I think we're the fastest growing (or one of the fastest growing) places in the country.

Denton is kind of in the middle of nowhere north of Ft. Worth. It is, however, the Miss Texas capital of the world...

Love Austin. Played a concert at UT in 1980. A good friend from NY, Peter Mazzetti, has made new roots in Austin. You might even know him...does renos and plays guitar.  Great guy!
Yes, many pretty girls in Denton...quarter horse country.  It's really a different world. Love the open spaces, sunsets, BBQ, catfish, gumbo, mesquite, armadillos, two-step, fast highways.
I also have a friend from Fargo.

NYC, this is my condo cart. I fit everything you can ever need for a job.
Mini dewalt table saw.
Kapex w/ Mini dewalt miter stand, saw helper wings, and on and on. It's about 32" wide x 40 - 44” L with a 6-7” deep top shelf. It also clears 80” door with extension wings. I can’t remember the exact size. But will get through  32” wide door. All commercial building usually have 36” so there should never be a problem.  The midi can fit snug next to the kapex on top or wheel it separately stacked with sys's.  I have always made it with a single load / trip. I usually get dropped off or unload then park. You can’t park. So I would rig it up to a bike, add real rubber wheels, side panels to completely protect and seal off the elements and wondering hands. I’m sure there is a service that pick it up and transport it for you. Like a min van cab or something. Your in NYC there is nothing that is not available on the NOW. The side walls can flip up and to be used as work table.

Keep me in the loop if you build it. My head is spinning with ideas.

Thanks, Yanni. That is a great cart. Unfortunately, it would be too much for my four-floor-walk-up.  I picked up the Sysroll and decided, to do most of the loft build here,at the shop, and then ship the parts to the site for installation. I'll put my drills, laser rig, toolbox, mini vac, etc., on the Sysroll- and wheel it to the site. So, yes, I don't really have a complete mobile solution yet, but I think that this will work for this build. If I do work weekends, after this, then I will most likely get the UG Stand and a helper.

It's kind of the beginning of crawdad season. There are multiple crawdaddy boils this weekend in bar/grills and a parking lot - all within walking distance of here. 'Don't even need a fast highway to get to them.

The parking lot party is where a bunch of food trailers are set up and they have a farmer's market on Sundays. It should be fun.

Sounds great, Tom...wish I was there! When my wife and daughter get back from midtown, I planned on us all walking around the corner to the Farm Stand lining the Columbus Avenue side of the Museum of Natural History to pick up some fresh produce and poultry for tonight's dinner.  Sure miss Texas BBQ...we have a chain, one is one 72nd between CP West and Broadway, called Texas BBQ...but, it's a joke compared to the real thing.

Try Daisy Mae's BBQ at 11th ave and west 46th. Really good stuff

(I used to work on the edge of Columbus circle)

Cheers. Bryan.

You could come to Cincinnati and get in some woodworking, fine German brew and Montgomery Inn BBQ. If it was good enough for bob hope to ship to Los Angeles each week, it is good enough for most !!
