UK - Contents have changed on a few machines...

Good Morning

Just for information, a few FESTOOL and PROTOOL machines have had the contents or 'scope of delivery' changed and I'd thought Id pass on the info. As you can see many had the change date of 01/01/2013, so I'm a little late but only just received this last week.

One other thing we have noticed on the OF 1400's that have arrived recently is a change in the clamping collets supplied with the machine. The ones we got this week have the 1/4" and 1/2" included whereas they always used to have the 8mm, 12mm and 1/2". The Festool UK website still indicates this and I'm awaiting confirmation on whether this is a permanent change to the contents.

About bl***y time! That's the main thing that's been wrong with the OF1400 for years! The 8mm and 12mm collets are completely useless for most people.

PS - anyone wanna buy an 8mm and 12mm collet? About 5 years old, but never been used...

the router collet isuue is great . total waste having them in there when no one uses them

sad to see that there is almost no sandpaper included with the sanders.

Poor show on festools behalf. Unless they come out with a must have tool i wont be buying festool anymore i dont think, apart from a ts55r if at the right price

Just had confirmation, the OF 1400 Router is now supplied with the 1/4" and 1/2" collets as standard.

I hope dealers are going to remember to ask purchasers of the LR32 system systainer if they have an 8mm collet already for their 1400.  I wonder if this means that their will b a gradual shift towards manufacturing Festool bits in the 1/4" and 1/2" shank sizes?

That was a thought, but unless the 1010 was also not going to have an 8 mm collet then they would be going back to the old way of having 2 Lr32 kits.  The 8mm collet for the 1010 is different than the one for the 1400/2200 - not that the 2200 can be used on the LR 32 plate.

I agree that for most people the 12mm collet is not required but I have quite a few 8mm router cutters - certainly all of the ones for my Leigh dovetailing jig and I think that an 8mm standard would be far better than 1/4 inch as it allows the cutters to be a bit bigger.

I too have a pair of 12mm collets going spare!

It's probably Festool adapting to the English way of doing stuff that the German gründlichkeit cannot understand, like not using 8mm bits like everybody else in a world where everything technical is done in metric.

Basically its a price rise ,
The English way , at least  how I work , is to use metric and imperial measurements side by side . i.e  I will measure one dimension in metric and the next dimension in imperial  as its easier to remember and it probably has a lot to do with ( personally speaking) being of an age that I was taught both systems at school.
