..just kidding.

But consider the timing as next month the new AIRSTREAM battery format is launched with new AIRSTREAM batteries and faster chargers included with the machines. Plus versions will get the new TCL 6 (40% faster) and Set versions will get the SCA 8 (65% faster) chargers.

Early adopters can pre-order these at special pricing here:http://www.toolfest.co.uk/quick-search?terms=airstream

is there a 2.6ah version? i like the light weight over larger capacity.

Hi warren, finding it hard to keep up to date with all these festool changes.

Am I right in thinking that the new airstream chargers will still charge the old 5.2ah batteries but I only get faster charging times with new airstream batteries?

And are the airstream batteries backward compatible?

Hi Ali

That is my taking on it. All the Li-Ion batteries are forward and backward compatible. The only variation, as you said, is charging time. Although I'm happy to be corrected by a grown-up.

Only those of us with NiCd or NiMh batteries will need to retain a TCL3 charger.

So all positives with this battery upgrade.

Hi Warren

Hitachi have had fans in their chargers to blow air through the batteries for several years now. This allows faster charging as the heat build up is reduced.

Hi Peter

Yep, it's nothing new to the power tool industry, but it is new to our favourite power tools.  [big grin]
