Ultimate Work Bench Plans

Ron,

About how heavy is the table (not including horses)?  Would like to be able to stack it on it's side in my garage when not in use, but don't want to break my back doing so.  [big grin]

Also,  any plans on offering the miter saw stand pdf?

thanks,

Jon

I can't really say how heavy they are, but I lift each side without strain. The plans have upgrades that will shave a few more ounces off, but not a big deal. If you watch the original video, you will get an idea of how easy they are for me to move around.

Yes, I plan on offering the Miter Stand, but plan on some improvements to the design. I am thinking about making the main unit a little shorter and the extensions a little longer, also it needs to be 8" tall like the new design for the UWB as opposed to the current 7".

If may take me a bit before I can complete them as the UWB took around 100 hours. I think now that I have the format down and know a lot more about using  SketchUp's Layout module, I can cut a few hours off.

Any problems with sagging on the beams? Ie, could you pound an assembly together with a dead blow hammer and not get any bounce?

A request for the plans were sent in on Wednesday evening early but no response as of now.    [embarassed]

What email name are your using? I can't find one that says red bird. I have gone through all emails since posting the offer and have checked junk mail. Try sending again to crpaulk@msn.com I have responded with PayPal request to all emails I have received so far.

Thanks,
Ron

is it possible to convert your digital plans or the cut list automatically and get a metric version?

Can't wait for the miter plans!

I have had one other request for metric. I looked into automatic conversion, but can't find it in Layout. I would have to go through the plan and convert one at a time and make a second copy. I will try to find some time to do this. When I start the Miter Stand, I will make sure to do both. I like metric, but for me it is another language. I have to memorize what mm is equal to in inches or use a metric tape.

Redbird,
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. As your know, I found your email out on MSN's site as well as 2 others. I will make it a habit to check MSN directly a few times each day instead of depending on them to forward to me.

Thank You,

This is a great little converter tool & it's free!! If you choose the distance tab then inch on the left & mm on the right when you put the inchs in the top box it displays the conversion instantly. It will also convert just about anything else you can imagine.

Gerry,
I will take a look. I do have a construction master app on my phone, which lets me see inch=mm. My problem is I have to check each time. If I use metric in SketchUp or Layout, I have to confirm it is correct. If I look at a dimension of say 1'11 15/16"  when it should be 2', I know automatically that I don't have the right dimension. If it is 608mm I have to convert to feet and inches to confirm. When I went to France, I had to look up every word to communicate, other wise I would have no idea of what I just ordered off the menu  [eek]

Hi Ron,

I know what you mean when I first started working in metric I had to convert everything back to standard to tell if it looked right. Or if it would fit through the door [eek]

Ron:

it's exactly the same for me when using Imperial plans, you can easily screw up badly when not working in your accustomed units of measurement!

Does Sketchup alow conversion from Imperial to Metric (or vive versa) after completion of a project? I have never tried.

Both SketchUp and Layout have many options for how dimensions are shown including mm. I can preset the dimension option for mm, then all dimensioning will be in mm. Unfortunately, it does not work on existing dimensions. In other words, it is a manual process to convert each dimension to mm. It would be nice if Google would add a global button to switch back and forth.

I am planning on creating two sets both inch and metric for the miter bench plans. When time allows,  I will create a mm set for the UWB. I wish I had thought about it when working on the design.

Thanks,

Hi Ron
As I told you via email, I got the plans, and printed them. I had to buy some plywood, because I had nothing to match 3/4"... I bought 21mm (a little bit more... Hope it won't be too heavy !) because it seems in France we have only 15, 18 an 21mm.
If you are interested, I'll send you metric conversion (I must do it to build the UWB).
Just a question concerning sawhorses : wouldn't it be nice to have a slot on both inner and outer section to set the shelf ? It would also improve stability, wouldn't it ?
Hearing from you soon
Frederic
