This sort of thing really gets my goat. What it does is take a good retailer and make him suspicious of his customers. That causes him to put all sorts of checks to protect himself in place that make the buyer jump through all sorts of hoops.

It only takes one incident like this to sour a good retailer.

Plus it screams volumes about the integrity of the buyer in this case . He buyer is nothing more than a thief and liar.

the problem is that it is a buyers market. all the rights are on the customers side.
you will always have some scumbags that want to defraud people. in this market they are on the customers side.

if the seller had more rights , the scum would be on the sellers side as well(or at least more)

I am glad it is this way.
at least us honest good people can buy with confidence.

it must be very hard to be a seller when you can be robbed and know who did it but cant prove it

I full agree with the bad taste that the seller is left with.

While it is probable that the buyer was the thief, it is not beyond all certainty. There are thieves everywhere, including in the supply and delivery chain.
The seller does not only need to worry only about the buyer, but everyone between himself and the buyer.

I agree that in this case it would be odd for a driver or shipping worker to go to level of effort removing that parts but there is no way to prove it was not 'lost in transit'.

Oh, the scum is on the sellers side as well, in high amounts. Unless you deal with a known reputable company, you never know in advance if a seller is trustworthy or not. Welcome to the internet.

definitely scum on the sellers side  especially on eBay etc. where there is no way to know who's who.
at least if you find a good set of sellers you are ok but buyers can change names every purchase and screw the same seller over and over
