Hi all, so I'm a very happy Sketchup user and with Cutlist as a plugin I'm almost in SU heaven. I cannot get the Layout function going though and haven't the slightest idea why that is. Anybody have any idea?

Or, is there another plugin that makes a cutlist with the layout for sheet materials?

Cheers, Bob.

Layout is only available with Sketchup Pro. Did you pay for/download Pro?

Mac or PCM?
some users have experienced problems with macs.
Personally I never liked this plugin, I prefer cutlist plus with cutlist bridge.

Thanks Tim. I've checked that just now, looks alright, so that has a layout function also right?

I wrote up a bug on this on the Cutlist wiki.  If it is the same issue, the workaround is to "nominal thickness Margin" field, has some value in it, even if the value is "0".  Do not leave it blank.  That allowed me to run Cutlist on my iMac.

Tim, I don't know much about Cutlist Plus (and I never heard of Cutlist Bridge) what kind of cost are we talking about?

Yes, if you download the free "cutlist bridge" which works well and the trial version of CutList plus you can demo it.
In the demo version of CutList Plus they have limited the amount of elements/pieces you can actually enter into the program to 3-4 but you get a good idea of the power. You still have to upload data (prices etc.) materials so you can pull quotes from cut list.

It's pretty seamless once you have installed  "cut list bridge" and understand how to use it within Sketchup.  Essentially Cutlist bridge allows you to export your components to an excel spread sheet (see my example on the bunk bed thread) and then you can import that into Cut list plus. If you don't need the layout function you can use cut list bridge by itself and open the exported parts list to excel and make your own layout.

BTW, the Cut list bridge videos are very good.

If you mean Cutlist plus fx, the gold edition.
I think I used v. 4 of the ruby script cut list plug in on Sketchup 7 on a PC with Win XP.

I love this addin use it all the time.  ITs a fantasic tool to me for more catching part errors than actual laying out cutt parts but is a great tool for quick estimation of BF lumber.

Ok I'm going to ask a stupid question, but first things firs.  Does any of it work.  When you go to pluggins does cutlist appear, and you should click on it and see two tabs  One labeled Cutlist and one labeled layout.    Second you must have some parts selected to use the tool.  I make components and makes it easy to capture things quickly.  If you also assign materials to your component parts, its better.  i.e cherry, plywood, hinges, dowles etc.    Second when in the cutlist tab you must make sure the box cutlistoutput and layout output are checked to webpage.  You don't have to use both.  It also helps to select part key words and material key words so those are grouped together in your output.  The best part I liked is when I finish a component, I quickly select it, and run cutlist and if any of the dimensions in the part list begins with a "~" then that means your parts are not perfect to scale.  For example if you draw a box 2 x 2 x 2 and the part begins with ~ 2 x 2 x 2 then you did not draw your part perfect. it could be off by a 64th of an inch (sorry i use imperial) and would not show but it will there.  I've fixed several problems that way.  And as you know errors in parts add up!  I've drawn actual full scale templates from my drawings so its critical.    anyway shoot me a pm and i can help you if you wish.  I love it best tool I ever used and i tried so many cad packages.

Thanks bones (can I call you bones? ;). I do use the cutlist output already and it is crucial now for the way I work. So no worries there. It's the layout output that I've never got. I have no clue why it doesn't work but I'm re-reading your post to make sure I have it all set as you say. Will try that now, might shoot you a pm soon though.

Cheers! B.

Yay it worked! I've checked the box for SVG, the webpages boxes were already checked, then ran the app and it worked! He saved a couple files with layout plans.

Thanks man, really happy with this!

Cheers, Bob.

I thought the cutlist program was free, even if using the free version of sketchup am I wrong?

Just to be clear, "Cutlist" is a free plug-in for Sketchup.  However, "Cutlist Plus" is a separate program you pay for.
