Unread Posts Get Marked As Read

I've noticed that, merely going to the Unread posts section causes them to be marked as Read, thus making them disappear, even though I have not clicked on "Mark All As Read". Is this normal? I just noticed it on my MacAir (using Safari) and don't know if that is true on my PC with Chrome or not.

Usually I just read what I want and then mark the rest as Read, but I just went to the Unread section, logged out, and then back in again. No Unread messages were there.

How does it react if you come and go without logging out?

I don't know. I have set to logout after 2 hours if I don't log out manually and I usually logout when I'm done. I would suppose that, as long as you are logged in, the posts would stay as is. Is the site supposed to mark all posts as READ when you logout? If so, why? Unfortunately I don't always have the time to read all posts I'm interested at one time. I don't remember having this problem before but maybe I just didn't realize that I was missing all the Unreads I didn't look at.

I have the same problem viewing on my iPad, if I log onto the Fog and select unread posts but don't actually read any of the posts, log out then log back in again a few minutes later,  then there will be no unread posts listed for me to read. I had just put this down to one of those annoying s/w bugs.

Just checked on my PC with Google Chrome. The Unread posts remain marked Unread as long as you don't read them and don't mark them Read so it must be unique to Safari or Apple's OS. I can't find a setting in Safari Preferences to prevent it.

That's very strange. It doesn't happen to me, and I'm using Chrome on a PC. I'll test with a few other browsers and look into this a bit more. Is anyone else experiencing this?

That is correct about Chrome. The posts don't disappear unless you mark them Read or read them. So far, I only have them all disappear in Safari. I don't have to read them or mark them. Merely going to the Unread page makes them all disappear the next time I login. But, again, it is Safari.

This happens to me on occasion when using an IPad but it is not very often, perhaps one in fifty views. I usually stay logged in. I do not recall if it has happened using my PC where I am going thru IE. Sometimes I lose the unreads only to have them reappear after leaving the site momentarily to look at something else and then re-opening the unreads. My access to FOG is always to the unread page as my entry point so I sort of know when I get only one or two subjects, or none, that it is not functioning as it should. Quite often, I can leave and come back a minute later and 'voila', there are twenty.

[member=57769]TylerC[/member] Same here, It Only happens when i'm using the I pad & this issue happens every time its not just a once in a while problem.
When I do use the PC I don't have this issue at all, so it looks like some testing on the Safari platform is needed.

I use Firefox on my Mac and have not had this happen.  I have had them drop of the list, but never have they been marked as read.

Where do they go then? They obviously are still there as posts, but don't show up in the Unread list even though they are not Read.

If I remember correctly, if you click the green "unread" button at the top of the page.  On the unread page, there should be a link to "all unread" and that will list all of the threads that are not marked read.  I normally use Tap-A-Talk on my phone for viewing posts since it remembers where you are in every thread.  I will try to get some screen shots on my Mac tomorrow

You are right, but that is where they disappear by merely viewing the Unread page. Once I go to the Unread and Logout, they are no longer Unread or at least don't show up there. It must be a Safari thing. Chrome on my PC doesn't behave that way.

[member=57769]TylerC[/member] Is there any update on this issue from your end. Thanks.

[member=57769]TylerC[/member]  Just wondering if a change was made. This problem doesn't seem to exist anymore with Safari for me at least. I just logged out and back in again and all the Unread messages were still there. That's different than a few weeks ago.

[member=19734]grbmds[/member] I still have the same problem, If I logout and log back in again then all the unread posts would have disappeared. What version of Safari are you using?

[member=42735]DB10[/member]  I am using Safari Version 9.0.1 (10601.2.7.2). I am on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.

[member=42735]DB10[/member] Actually the Unreads stay there only when I stay on my MacAir laptop. My iMac and MacAir have the same OS X version (Yosemite) and the same Safari version. As long as I stay on my laptop no problem. When I login to the FOG on the iMac all the Unreads disappear regardless of whether I read them or not. That would indicate it is a Safari setting I suppose, but I have no idea what that would be. I'd have to go through them one by one to see what, if any, differences exist.

Whenever I login and read a couple of posts using Tapatalk then come back to view from my laptop they're all marked as "read since last visit".

Edit: Which may be by design, but it doesn't happen when I browse multiple times on a laptop - but I don't bother logging out each time, so haven't checked that "design".
