Unscrupulous Craftsmen

per

you cant register with any old corgi  ::)  :)

corgi (to work on gas) is one of those sets of letters that mean something (an acronym i think is the correct term)

you have to be IEE registered to do any electrical work (Institute of Electrical Engineers)

electricians and gas plumbers have to register ALL work they do to any building anywhere in the country, that includes just testing electric circuits

lawyers require the records when houses are bought and sold

insurance companies refuse claims if electric or gas works carried out by unauthorised persons are a causal factor in the claim

the IEE testing regs have to be done to the current standards, so work over 30 years old is almost guaranteed to fail

gas testing is similar

the manufacturers "help the process" by updating models so spares run out

cynics would say it was a licence to print money...............................................
