I've noticed that that the dust extractors are built modularly. Is it possible to upgrade the CT22 to a CT33 ... add additional capacity and tool storage?

Thanks.

Debra,
There is no way that I know of to literally transform a CT22 into a CT33.  In addition to the tool storage, the CT33 also had greater dust-collection capacity.

However, you could get creative with a Systainer added to the CT22 to build more storage!

Tell us more about what your goals are.

My thought was that there is an "expanded capacity module" on the CT33, which adds both dust collection volume and tool storage. If you look at the Germany Festool site, you'll see that they offer more dust extractor variations than just the 33 ... up to a 55!

On this gigantic version, it looks like there are 3 "expanded capacity modules". Cool, huh?

Not to steal your thread Debra,
I'm in the CT22/CT33 decision stage currently. I've gone Festool Cuckoo like many here, and I'm picking out one of the remaining tools I want (OF1400 EQ) in order to get the combined package price. I guess it's a decision of size, vs. how often you have to empty the vac, vs. bag cost???
What was your deciding factor in switching to 33?

Hi,

The break even point (extra cost of the 33) on bag cost is somewere around the 50 bag mark. The 33 bags cost 12% more but hold 50% more than the 22.

I admit I'm only an active hobbiest, but at that break even point I would be dead before I got my money back. ;D Just put in the 6th CT-22 bag in a little over 2 years.  :)

Let me take a moment to say this about that !!!!!

Number one, I don't understand anyone buying a Festool product without either the Ct-22 or 33.

I have a CT-22, I love it, and have never purchased a new bag. (Make that used) I have a large vacuum system in the shop, used primarily for a planer, however when I need to clean the bag I just pulled out, placing a 4 inch hose over the inlet, shake it about a bit, place it back in the CT-22. that has been at least 10 times since I purchased the unit.  Very strong bag.  Remember the two downline filters are the HEPA filters.

This would work just as well with a shop vac, maybe a bit slower.

I do not have a CT-33, however it is enough taller than it would be cumbersome under my MFT and the temporary table that I use for cutting for cutting 4' x 8' sheets.

This beats any of the aforementioned bag savings.

With all that, I'm gone fishing.
