Upgrading to iOS5

Ironically, I tried my iphone 3G that went swimming on 6/30/2010.  I actually got it to work!  now to get the images off of it!

Yeah.  I have another ipod now.  Like I need another one.

I try to stick to the rule "no dot zeros"; last time I had to use a 'dot zero' it was for the development environment for iOS applications.  Polite words cannot describe how absurdly horrible that application was; there is no platinum white pill you can take in quantity to make up for that application's release: undoubtably the worse I've used in my career.

I only used the seed release of iOS 5 to test my application that was being released the same day.  Mostly worked correctly except a couple dialogs that iOS5 decided were best viewed full screen.  Not sure if they fixed that bug before release; assuming not.

Never thought about it that way, but it's so true!  Great advice PM!

Generally, upgrading major version is prone to issues with iPhones based on my experience.

I would recommend a full backup and do a restore rather than upgrade.

I upgraded one device last night and two today.  The one last night was painfully slow due to overloaded servers but it worked.

No issues today.

i did read on Apple forums that some users were going into airplane mode before upgrading to overcome some issues with verification.

I upgraded to 10.5 on my laptop and had no problems.  I also upgraded the Iphone IOS 5 with fallout.

I updated my iPod2 and 3GS the first day. The iPod was fine but My iPhone was wiped out. It did something to the sim card and would not reconize it. I ended up stopping at the AT&T store after Lowes and they put a new sim card in and it booted up fine. Kinda sucks I had to do that cause the 4S will be here sometime today. Where is that UPS truck ????

I did lose a lot of my apps.  [mad] some really important ones like my Invoice2go. $60,000+ estimates GONE. Im glad i sent almost all of them out and CC myself.  [crying]

Other things I lost were the upgrades for Garage Band and iPhoto. I have to make a list after I get my 4S today and call the app tech and get all of them replaced.  [mad] Luv Macs but this upgrade to Lion and IOS5 wiped me out.

iPad 2. No problem with the upgrade though it did take 1.5 hours, though that was no fault of the iPad or MacBook Pro. It's because of the 4,000 pics 320 apps and the videos. All needing to be backed up and rewritten and the pics reencoded. The only data not copied was Instapaper's and the Mirror Online and that was on their servers anyway.

YMMV  8) :)

4S ordered on my kids number. Trying to have AT&T and apple fix it for the past 2 hours in the mall arrrrgggg

What sucks is they turned off service on my 3GS and I have no phone to use.

I *accidentally* upgraded to iOS5 with no issues.

My 4S arrived today so I'd decided no to mess with upgrading the 4 since I'd already sold it to NextWorth. But after initializing the 4S, I told iTunes to wipe the old 4, and when it rebooted is was on iOS 5 (I guess because I'd downloaded the iOS 5 image). NO problems really.

Small aside: I work for the company that originally created (before spinning it off to a startup) the Siri technology. It's still not working well for me.

All 3 of my devices updated without an issue.

Siri on my 4S is working very well.
