First post, and not at all sure this is the right place on these forums, so I apologize if I'm doing this wrong.

So I've been wanting to move towards Festool as my tool maker of choice, and today I have a chance to get a Kapex 575306 miter saw for $950, barely used, bought November of last year.  I'm thinking of pulling the trigger, but wanted to hear from everyone here.  Is buying a used miter saw a good idea?  Any gotchas?  Any warranty issues?

Thx so much for any feedback!

That's a great price for the newer model with the assumption it's not damaged.  I would run to look at it before someone else grabs it!

Power it up and check for the typical power tool stuff like smoking or bent anything.  Do a quick look online to see all the adjustments, and if it cuts 90 both ways... it's a solid choice.

Hi John

That does sound like a good price. Besides checking the stuff that Knuckles mentioned, also check that the angle device and hold down clamp are included. I mention this because not long ago I saw a kapex on CL at what seemed to be a good price, but closer inspection showed it did not include the angle device and the hold down clamp (both are fairly $$$ to replace) and there was a worn out blade on it.  So it wasn't quite the bargain it seemed to be at first.

[member=73298]johnwest80[/member]  Welcome to the FOG.

I bought my Kapex through an Amazon warehouse deal.  The original owner may have just returned it for frivolous reasons, but I did find that extreme bevel cuts on the saw had a small amount of deflection, so I sent it into Festool repair and got it adjusted under the service warranty.

The 3 year service contract follows the tool, not the owner, so you should still have 2+ years of service on the saw.  If there's any question about whether the saw is as old as reported, you can also call up Festool and have them double check the purchase date associated with the serial number.

For all these reasons, it sounds like a great deal to me.

Unfortunately, I am not yet a Festool owner.  I met the guy to pick up the saw, and at that point realized it's the EB, not the REB.  However, I did know that the last of the EBs got the newer motors, so I talked him down to $725 and took ownership.  However, when I got home, I noticed on the tool that there is a manufacturer's date.  Well, that was 8/17!  I thought I was stuck with an old tool.  However, I contacted the guy, and amazingly enough, he let me take it back to him and returned my money.  I bet that *never* happens.  So anyway, the good news is I didn't get stuck with an old motor Kapex.  The bad news is that I don't have a Kapex :(.

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions, though.  You all are a great owner's group.  Maybe one day I'll be part of it!
