Used TS75 question

Hi there,

I'm a new member, and have only recently started woodworking again after a long time of inactivity. In the last year or so, I have purchased the TS55 and the MFT/3. I have the opportunity to acquire a used TS75 EQ and an assortment of rails (1900/2, 1400, 2700/2, 3000) for around $900. The saw is relatively lightly used and comes in an original systainer. Having relatively little experience buying this kind of equipment used, I was hoping to get some input from other members. First, has the TS75 been updated since its became available? That is, are there different models out there that I should be aware of? Second, assuming that this saw is a couple of years old, but not very heavily used, is $900 a reasonable price for this combination of saw and rails? Third, is there anything in particular I should make sure to inspect before I buy?

Thanks,

Yoav

I'd be jumping in quickly with all  those rails up for grabs (assuming they're not dented).

Even if the saw needs a service - as long as it's tidy and runs I don't think you can go too far wrong. The 75 hasn't seen an update for a long, long time.

Blades? Any additional blades come with the deal? That's where you'll spend a few more dollars ... along with fresh strips for the rails.

Are 2 of the rails the old series? (not "/2")

Hey Kev,

Thanks for the quick response. I guess I didn't realize that there are two series of rails (I was always wondering what the /2 stood for). I think the 3000 and 1400 rail would be of the old series, as the potential seller only specified that the 2700 and the 1900 were the /2 series. (He told me that the 1900 came with the saw).  Would it make a big difference if the rails were from the old series?

Thanks

Yoav

I'm ignorant of the compatibility issues (if there's any). You'll need input from one of the wiser Festool sages on this.

The saw has not been updated since its release.  It is a wonderful saw and if lightly used, I am sure will provide you years of use.  Not sure on how good a deal it is -- at first I thought they were the newer rails and that would be a pretty good deal.  However, with the older style I am not sure -- I think those work fine, but they have been refined with the version 2.

Unless the seller specifically mentions that the two rails are the older, single T-channel design, my guess is that it is possibly just an oversight. The /2 rails have been out for so long that they won't be very common in the U.S. "Festo" was still pretty rare in the U.S. back then.

Nevertheless, all of the rails are still compatible with each other and the saw. The only time the pre-/2 rails aren't as attractive is when you need to join two rails together (but they will still join, just not with two bars). Given that there are so many lengths available, that should not be an issue for the buyer.

I can't speak for the dollar value of the package, but in terms of its functionality, it would be a very handy package to have to compliment your exiting TS55. If the 1400 rail is redundant from what you already own, I would even consider cutting it into two short rails. Then you would have the complete complement of rails.
