Used TS75

Hey all.  I found someone who is selling a supposedly year old TS75, supposedly "used once."  It comes with the saw, the systainer and the 75" guide rail.  I think I can get him down to $650.  Is this a good deal or should I just spring for a full priced new one with full warranty?  Help is appreciated.

When festool sells them as reconditioned units, they come with a 1 year warranty, the rail, and systainer for $585.00. At his price,  for the extra 65.00 you’d be getting one year more warranty compared to the reconditioned price. Of course you’ll need to do your own due diligence regarding the warranty coverage.

Call Festool, explain the situation and ask.  I doubt that they will give you any owner info, but perhaps they can let you know if it has been reported to them as stolen.

this was brought up in the past, people buying tools alot cheaper than the actual purchase price.

From what i remember from the conversation we had here was yea call festool they can check the s/n (if it was registered) to see if it was reported stolen or not.
At least that way you have performed your due diligence.

I made this recon purchase recently. In my case all items look unused. No reason to take a risk buying used elsewhere.

FYI - make sure you get the 75" rail if you want to x-cut 48" - 55" is just too short.

How often do they offer the reconditioned one?  I've never seen it out there.

About once every 1-2 weeks I've seen it coming up.  BTW, you will probably get charged sales tax if it applies in your state, so factor that into the equation.  Once posted on the site, they will typically sell within 30mins to 2 hours.  In fact, if you wait for the email, it will likely be gone.  There are websites you can use to monitor webpages for changes.  That will likely alert you faster (at least that's what I think people are doing because things are always sold by the time I see an email from Festool and click the link). 

On the used one, if you don't have a receipt from the seller, and the serial number wasn't previously registered with Festool, they will at least honor the warranty for 3 years from the date of manufacture printed on the tool (same label that contains the serial number).  You should see MM/YYYY printed there.  So again, factor that into your decision.

Go for used if it saves you hundreds of dollars. Don't if you can only save 50 or 100.

I don't know how your used market is, but I could get a perfectly fine used TS75 with rail and systainer for around €300.

That 300 Euro price you list seems absurdly low.  The new price for a TS75 saw/kit on a German website is 672 Euros.  Used very popular and in demand Festools (TS75) going for 45% of new price seems unbelievable.  Or is it the custom in Europe to just throw away, give away any and every tool once it loses that new smell, new shine?

The prices you guys pay seem absurdly high to me. Those are used tools. Sometimes just 2 years old, other times 10 years. Especially with Festool you can rely on the quality, even with older tools. It is also a question of supply and demand. Plenty of tools offered, if you ask for a high price, nobody's gonna buy it because they know they can get one cheaper.

Seller wants a high price he's never going to get. Highest offer been sitting at 410 for a week now, it's not going any further.

[member=69670]presidentsdad[/member] If you don't need it in a hurry, another avenue for a slight discount would be eBay.  Every 3 months or so they float a 1 day sitewide coupon for 15% off with a $100 cap on your savings.  That's not a lot, but compared to your other options, it's not bad considering you get the full warranty.  They don't really advertise in advance, they just post it on the home page, but if you belong to other tool forums, you'll typically see a post about it (it has been posted on the FOG in some instances).  Unfortunately, you just missed one by a week.  Keep an eye out around Easter and Father's Day, I suspect you'll see another.  Hartville Tool lists Festool on eBay (including tool and extractor bundles with the Festool discount) and I've found them to be very good to deal with over the years.  I've used them on eBay, Amazon and on their own site or over the phone.

Why did you want a TS 75 maybe that was bc it was sell cheap. My advice is to go for the TS55 a little cheaper and you'll find a lot more of them for sale on Ebay and the recon sale. Most of us have the 55 and it does 95% of the work for us.

Thanks RKA...I've been looking at that option.  I am not really in a super hurry.  I'm not trying to save just a $100 on a used one though. If I could get the saw and a track for about $500 I think that would be a decent deal.  Otherwise, if it's less than $200 savings, I'll probably just go for a new one.

I've done my research and based on the type of work I want to do and the fact that I don't have funds for both saws, I have chosen the TS 75.

[member=69670]presidentsdad[/member] That’s a more reasonable price for a used saw, but they don’t get posted in the classified here for that price often and if they do, they are gone quick.  You might want to keep an eye on your local craigslist.  Used on eBay is a crapshoot as always. With good high quality pictures, you might be okay.  I’ve been searching for a used one as well at this price point and I’ve missed out on one in 5 months.  Thankfully, it’s for a project I haven’t started and may not until the second half of the year.
