Uses for Sys-MFT systainers

Not to distract the discussion in the thread about the Parf guide, I created this post to solicit your experiences and ideas on how to make a better use of my sys-mft systainer that has been sitting idle for a couple of years. This is the official video on it:

Do you have other uses or some good uses of it in your shop or work? Thanks.

Perfect for trimming/cutting pipe and other round stuff. Mine (I have 2) live on top of a stack of systainers on trolleys.

I have yet to jump into the foray of a miters stand for my Kapex.  I often have a 2 x 12 set up on a series of saw horses.  I use the MFT Sys as outboard supports.  In the very rare case I need repeatable cuts like on legs of door trim I have clamped the MFT Sys to the 2 x 12 and then used the clamping elements as adjustable end stops.  I know I don't have scales, but I do own 10 plus tape measures.

I am mostly using the MFT-SYS when doing work outside the shop.
If you have a couple of Systainers below, it can be very useful to hold a board upright (standing on the ground, clamped to MFT-SYS)

For smaller stuff on the go it is my “jigsaw cutting station” etc.

Sometimes in the shop it doubles as a workbench you can easily run around. [emoji41]

Small apartment-living tip:

I put it on the drainer in the kitchen, on 4 no-slip bench cookies and use it for very small hand-sawing jobs, where getting a power-tool out of the cupboard is too much hassle. The mess clean-up is minimised as it all falls into the sink. The bench cookies hold it firm and the clamps work well through the holes to hold the stock in place.

For instance cutting a small piece of wood. Or cutting a metal tube to size, where the V in the top is really useful.

Does anyone have this Sys-MFT Systainer and the MFT?

I was hoping all the holes match up.

If not, which ones do?

You can stack a set of systainers to match the MFT height, I have it written down in the lid of my SYS-MFT.  Then you can have something straddling the MFT and a stack of systainers.  I have done this to provide extra support when cutting large items, but I don't think I've done this since I got the MW-1000 extension table that connects to the MFT side profile.

Please share how you propose to utilize the SYS-MFT, and the MFT, I am curious.

I have both, but am far away from them, so I can't answer the hole question. I've found the SYS-MFT useful, while also being the storage for the majority of the MFT accessories. Thinking of switching the lid from the current SYS-3 to a SYS-4 as more space for MFT accessories would be good, and it would match up with SYS-4 of the TS55.

[member=72978]BarrySumpter[/member] I have both. Not sure what you mean by "match up", but the systainer holes are at 96mm centres (just like the MFT) if that's what you mean. The two centre holes are horizontally joined, making the space that your hand goes in for carrying it.

I have to say that -- apart from the kitchen sink use that I mentioned (above) -- I only use mine for clamp/dog storage/carrying, not for doing portable work. It's too small and light to be of much real use otherwise. Weighting it down with stuff inside helps, of course.

Another thing to note is that all the sawdust gets through the holes and makes a mess inside, unlike a normal systainer. This is also true if you are, for example, sawing nearby.

I think that if I were to design one myself, I would:
  • make a butterfly-hinge-type arrangement, that could be opened up to make a larger surface
  • on a deeper systainer
  • where the holes on the two sides didn't match up when closed -- so that dust wouldn't get inside when it's not in use

Place the MDF top of the Sys-MFT on top of the MDF top of the MFT.

If you place a single dog stop all the way thru the bottom left corner of both.

Can you place a dog stop into ANOTHER dog hole in the sys-MFT and all the way thru the matching dog hole in the MFT?

If so will they all match up with dog stops?

If not, which ones do match?

Not all 12 holes are 96mm apart.....
front to back spacing all all three rows is 96mm
The centre pair top and bottom are 96mm apart side to side
the far left and far right are 106mm from the centre pairs
The centre handle hole isn't two 20mm joined up, its 25mm

I use mine for a small portable work surface in conjunction with the Sys-Toolbox. I have some basic tools and items in the box. I keep a Bosch 12v cordless vac (the small flat one) in the Sys-MFT (a Sys - I), along with a couple clamps. I have a piece of 12" x 16" grippy shelf liner rolled up in the Sys-MFT to keep it from sliding around on a floor. Add a drill in a Sys - I to the stack when needed.

This makes a handy set up for repairs and small things around the house , property, etc. I can grab the stack and know I have all the basics. Including a small work surface.

Good idea and protects the floor too.

I keep one attached to a MIDI vacuum. I can use it as a shelf with a friendly surface for edged tools, cutting station, vise station, storage box and it also becomes a handle for me to easily transport the MIDI. Inside are sanding sponges, vac hose tools, clamps, pencils, a small pad of paper, a tape measure and Lord only knows what else. Where the MIDI goes...the Sys-MFT goes.

Another owner suggested I try this again in case it wasn't clear the first time.
