Using Dominos instead of a splines for hardwood floor mitred corners?

I'm installing 3/4" x 7" wide flooring in the dining room with a picture frame border around the perimeter.
Mitred corners are usually joined with splines but I was thinking of using two Dominos referenced off the bottom
of the boards. Does anyone foresee any problems with this?

i dont see any problems but why reference of off the bottom, surky it is the top you want flush. or is the floor going to be sanded down anyway in that case better to have no gap under it

Yes its unfinished and will be sanded after installation. I can't see any problems with the Dominos either,
in fact having used the Domino for many other types of jobs where accurate joining is required I think it will do just
fine, but better to ask..

Wayne, I'm sure you'll do a test first and when you do I think you'll find it's much more difficult to draw a Dominoed miter joint together (tightly) than you expect. Especially with two Dominoes. I'd go with splined miter joints. Put a slot cutting bit in a trim router.

i dont think drawing the parts together will be hard. i would use one of the wider settings and a good tap with you persader will draw it together. there wont be that many  joints as it is only a border

Michael/Alan, I did use the Domino to build photo frames (with the larger setting as Alan said) and it worked really well,
the frame came together nicely. I'll definately try it first, they are 7" boards so there is plenty of room for two with the
larger setting. I really like how the Domino mates two surfaces together perfectly without to much fussing around.
