Using MFT top on conventional workbench

I noticed in Paul Marcels video on the domino that he is using a conventional timber legged(and viced) workbench with what appears to be an MFT top. What a  great idea. One can have the ability to use the Festool clamps and attachments etc, while at the same time pound away with chisels, hammers, planes etc. I have an MFT-3 and 55 and love it but need another workbench. Could anyone who has utilised the MFT top on a conventional wooden workbench tell me how it went, whether its worth it, how it works  etc.

Hello kitrobbins,
I just finished one - 80mm by 80mm legs with 80mm by 40mm rails and stretchers, all mortice and tenoned together. I got an 18mm mdf top CNC routed with 20mm holes @ 96mm centres. I also added a 200mm by 50mm apron under the front edge of the top, to mount a conventional front vice.
I use an Altendorf panel saw at my 'day job', so only wanted the bench in my home workshop for working on, clamping etc - not for cutting sheet materials. Overall size is 2000mm by 1000mm, which is plenty big enough for the furniture projects I work on in my leisure time.
I have ordered a set of 'Qwas' dogs, and today picked up a pair of Festool fixed clamps (MFT SP), which work to the 20mm holes. (part #488 030).
So far the bench has been great, though there are obvious compromises with only having an 18mm top.
                Cheers, Lincoln.

You can check out my sysport workbench here, it combines best of both worlds, a long, solid, flat and stable worksurface, combined with the versatility of the festool system.
I have a bigger assembly table island, but i now only use it for assembly work or when my sysport workbench is too small for the larger projects.

[smile]Linbro, Timtool and Jerome, many thanks for taking the time to reply. I already have the MFT-3 and on the basis of your comments and photos I will buid a side wall bench incorporating 18 mm mdf with assorted 20mm holes and the sidebar as you have used Timtool and a standalone bench with vice and conventional top for chisel and plane work.
