Using pins to align oversized domino mortises

Just made this video for the video contest and I'm pretty proud of it.  This method of aligning oversized mortises using the pins might be common knowledge but I'd never seen it before. 

It requires doing a second pass but I've found it WAY quicker than using reference marks.

That is interesting -- first time I have seen that approach.  I usually change the position of the pin by 3mm to account for the wider setting.  The problem with my method is that it is possible to forget to make the change and you'll screw up. 

Do you find that the thickness of the mortices remain as tight as normal with the second pass?
 
I've used the method of making a second pass, but I didn't use the pins on the second one, I just eyeballed the center of the mortise which was good enough for me since they were oversized anyway.
