Using Planex to refinish a cedar open beam ceiling

We live in a classic mid-century modern house with open beam ceilings. They were left unfinished since the house was built back in the 60's and the wood needs to be sanded due to leak stains and some kind of efflorescence (white'ish scum). Using my Rotex above my head for any length of time is going to be hellish and the only other sander I've got are the DT400, RO90 and ETS125 which are fine for getting into corners.

As far as abrasives go, I'm assuming that 80 to 150 will be fine for what I need, maybe 220 if I decide to stain it with some General Finish White Wash but whatever I do, I've got to sand it all.

Anyone use the Planex to refinish a ceiling or even redwood walls? Thanks!
