Ever wonder if the systainer is worth more than what you are filling it with?

In another thread about MAXI systainers, there was discussion about putting a Bostich framing nailer in one... I didn't pay $96/$102 (dont know which maxi it fits in?) for the nailer!

Anyone else ever have thoughts like this?

Yes- often, but the coolness factor / stackability of the systainers is a pretty powerful force.  For me, it doesn't matter what the item inside costs in and of itself, but how important is it for me to protect, organize and be able to find the item quickly and easily in a hurry.

That being said, the first thing I do when I buy a new festool in the systainer is toss out the fitted insert.  They are great for display and shipping, but they are big space wasters for storage especially if you keep you systainers in the shop.  Some of my sys 2 and 3s hold 2 or 3 sanders / tools in one systainer in my home made sysports.  If I worked with these tools on site everyday like some of the installers, etc I would still toss the inserts, and build light weight custom inserts in the configuration I wanted.

To me one of the huge advantages to the plug-it cord, is that you don't have an individual cord wrapped around and taking up space for each tool.  Again, if I was a site use guy, I'd carry two heavy gage (will fit all festools) cords with me in the stacks and a couple extra in the truck.

Ouch, I knew tools were more afordable in the US, but this is a bit absurd... I got my bostitch framing nailer "for free" with the purchase of €1000,= in nails for it; so I googled how much the thing actually costs here link 1 (Belgium) link 2 (the Netherlands)

On topic I considered getting a bunch of maxisystainers for our Bosch sds max demolition hammers/rotary hammers, because those cases see a lot of abuse, and I wasn't able to order spare latches for them. I never got so far to actually check the price of the maxisystainers, because I discovered that the latches of a bunch of old atlas copco cases I had lying around (from cordless drills no longer in use) were the same.

I got the gun for free, something was wrong with it. I am into it for the cost of the gasket/o-ring kit.  [laughing]

I see systainers as a time saving and organizing tool.

Sure, sometimes the things I pack in them may not inherently justify that level of treatment/ packaging. But knowing all the parts are stored in there, knowing it facilitates transport, and seeing the look on the client's face when the install area looks organized and professional... It all works out.

95%+ of my time is spent in the shop. So I don't have a dedicated van/ trailer for installation. So, knowing that everything I need is WITH THE TOOL is huge. It saves me a lot of time. As most of us know too well, the cost/ value of even the simplest thing is amplified immensely if you unpack and it's not there.

And my plumbing one too, no maybe not, those pex crimpers are kind of spendy.

My non Festool systainers so far:

Screws

Dewalt 625 - Sys 3
Bosch Sander and stuff - Sys 2
All my Bosch 10.8 stuff - Sys 3
Fein Multimaster - Sys 2

I am planning loads more and the value of the contents is completely irrelevant to me. Like others have said it's about ease of use etc. Working in the UK do kitchens and bathrooms means I generally have an area the size of a postage stamp for tool storage so good organisation is so important. I'm even thinking of putting my 32mm and 40mm solvent weld fittings in Sys 3 or 4's.

Also planning ones for:

Glues and Tape - Sys 2
SDS Drill - Sys 1/2
Odd Dewalt tools I still use in a Sys4
Clamps - Sys 4
Cleaning Kit - Sys 2
Sets - i.e holesaw kit, kreg jig kit, weird and wacky drill bits kit and all those little boxes of handy things.... - Sys 3/4

My standard set of 3 paint brushes already costs me 35 euro. Same as what I pay for a sys4. I typically cary 2 or 3 sets of brushes with me, one for each colour I'm working on that time.

Btw are you using the special insert for the Fein, or just have it directly in the Systainer? I'm thinking of putting my FMM in a Systainer, but wonder if the insert is any good (storage for blades etc).

im using a fein insert and theres plenty of room for blades and loads of sandpaper
