Using the hose Y adaptor for two tools

I bought the Y adaptor so I could use a 36mm hose for Kapex and a 27 mm hose for Ras 115, instead of continually pulling the hose off the Kapex and inserting my 1 foot 27mm pigtail into the end to use RAS. Then it occurred to me that if both tools are attached at the same time by two hoses, neither would get proper suction without disconnecting the other and installing the cap on the Y. What am I missing?

Thanks

Yup. Especially on the Kapex and RAS I think you will want to have only one hose open at time. Two Other sanders would be no problem though.

You need to add a last gate to shut off the port that is not being used.  You can get them from Rockler, but I'm not sure if it is the correct size.

Don't we now have the festool blast gates ever since the planex was introduced to North America?

Those should work nicely.

Best,
Daniel

That is exactly what I was talking about Tom.  I thought Festool had one but was not sure and I figured someone would jump in with the correct information.

The Y really excels when you need both hoses for an operation - i.e. Using a router and the Plexiglas Template.  Otherwise, you swap the hose or use a blast gate.

Sometimes I set up the ct22 and the y-adapter with my 36mm hose going to my kapex and the 27mm hose going to my ras. I don't use a blast gate or close off one hose, the dust extraction isn't as good but the time it save swapping hoses makes it ok in my book. Plus most of the fine airborne dust gets caught.

Huzzzah!??  I'm glad you posted this, as I just got the Y-adapter and was going to maybe jury-rig a blast gate.

I wish there was much more publicity surrounding new accessories (and any being retired).

Everything that's new can be found here and everything that has an announced arrival date can be found here.

I'm always happy to talk on the phone or by email also.

Buying two of the Festool blast gates at $55 each or $110 for two, is a hard pill to swallow, for connecting two DC hoses  [sad]

I have tried some of the blast gates for Rockler but so far nothing has fit.

I just tried the Blast Gate on Y-Connector to see how it would look/feel. It's a little odd looking but seems to be a perfectly good solution.

I honestly think keeping the 36mm hose connected and using the 27mm whip is the best solution.  Then you connect or disconnect the whip depending which machine you are running

Not a bad idea using the Y with a blast gate.  find myself constantly changing hoses from 36 to 27. I have them both hanging on the WC. Si it seems like a great idea to put a plug with multiple plugs on the CT along with the Y connector and blast gate so I can keep everything plugged in and its only a matter of switching hoses on the tools.

This should work fine for many users.  But, if you fix your Plug-it cord to your hose, or for those that use one of the heat-shrink hose sleeves to bundle the hose and cord when you latter want to add a 2' whip your Plug-it will come up a little short...  Just thought I might point out this consideration.
