... I got this job over the other bidders is because I could do it.  and with the festool system it really saved time on the job site.

I love that statement "because I could do it." And do it so well. Those are beautiful mitered bead joints. It is coincidence that I am working these days with the new product from Kreg Tools. (I presume there is not relationship.) They have created a clever jig to do the mitered corners just as you are doing.
nope no relationship.  they stole my name I have had for 55 years!  lol  is the new product out yet and on the market?  love to see it.

it was supposed to be released for distribtuion to Woodcraft stores on Nov 4th That was when I got mine...I havent checked with my local Woodcraft yet.

yep that is what he is talking about.. that is a nice set up for making doors.

Kreg,

Using the MFK700 at class & your posts here have pushed me over the edge.
I have several 2/6 X 6/8 flush doors to cover with cherry veneer. So today I placed an order for an MFK700.

Chris,

I have been using my MFK700 a lot more after our class.

I have been using it to edge band some Poggenpohl aluminum frig panels.

The panels have chanfered edges where the aluminum laminate meets.

hey chris, you will really use it alot and just love it.

Glad to hear that Aron. What bit are you using with the aluminum?

Kreg, I am sure I will have some questions for you.

Good, that makes it easy.

This may be really off the wall but I'd like to use it on my Leigh Super 18 dovetail jig.  I don't have a non-plunge routerI suppose the guide bush will screw in, and the MFK handles 8mm bits and 720 watts with overload protection seems powerful enough.  I take it slow anyway to minimize tear out.  I think the base is big enough.  The base on my 1400 isn't that much bigger if any.  What do you think?

I got a 700 a while back and really like it and find it worth the money.  Very precise and holds the settings when most smaller trimmers have problems with precision adjustment and holding their settings.  I would recommend the 700 very much.

That being said I planned to use it with my Leigh dovetail jigs and have found it to be less useful in that role.  The screw-in base for the templates is great but there is no visibility of the bit from above and it is very difficult to tighten the dovetail bits in the collet as they have to pass through the base, guide bush and up into the collet for installation.  The straight bit does not present this issue of course and there is also the issue of some of the larger leigh bits using 1/2 inch shanks.  The oblong base of the 700 also hits the back of the top clamp rail fairly easily in use.  So, don't expect the 700 to be your favorite go to router for use with the leigh dovetail jigs in my experience.

Best,
Todd

I bought the 700 last week so I could use it on a desk I was building for a friend and love this machine.  It is so easy to handle and like all Festool items it is expensive but worth every penny once you use it.

jeff,  that is great!  what did you use it for on the desk?  edgebanding?  detail?

I used it on the edging along the formica top and then used it to round over all the edges on the legs, aprons and stretchers.  I'm a little bummed right now because I found out that it won't trim 3/4" edge banding.  I like to put 3/4" on shelf edges and usually use a bearing bit in my PC 690 to flush up the top edge.  I'm trying to decide if I'm going to take it back and get a 1010 and the accessories to do it with that.  I'm spoiled with the dust collection.  Any advice?

Jeff

Jeff, you've summed it up. The MFK won't do 3/4" edging but the 1010 with edge routing accessories will. Of course you can do maybe 5/8" or so with the MFK. I've always used 1/2" edging so it's not an issue to me.
