vac-sys and vacuum bags

I'm planning on getting the Vac-sys set in the next few weeks and wondered in the pump can be utilized with a vacuum bag.  If so, are the Festool connections proprietary where I would need some sort of adapter?  I can see where I could really get into veneering.
