Well I am looking to get into some vacuum clamping with some veneers on my next project, a headboard for my grandson, and in looking everything over I started to think if I get a veneer vacuum clamp pump what about using it with the Festool vac clamp system. I don't see why someone could not use the clamping module with a regular vacuum pump system instead of the Festool pump. I figured before I assume I am right I would ask here because if it can be done then some one on here has already done it and can tell me what does and does not work.

I have seen some really nice home made and 3rd party clamps but none as nice as the clamping module with its swivel head.

Thanks for any advice you may have.

Any pump will work with the system. Only sticking point might be fittings.

I use standard Milton fittings on my 25+ year old $15.00 surplus HVAC pump with my two Vac Sys modules.  I simply cut off the German fitting to the vac and inserted barb male Milton fitting to insert into the already existing female on the pump.  I also bought 8mm flex tubing and used short pieces inserted into the Festool vac hoses so that I can completely disconnect the hoses from the modules for storage.  The fittings on the modules are push/pull fitting so all I do to disconnect is push the blue rings and and the fittings can be removed.  I did have to mark my modules so I knew which hose went to the pump and which was the foot release as I do not use them daily.
