The forum is going to be active regarding this announcement.  Wondering who is interested in buying and why?  Uses?

Peter

Love to have one but the entry price of the main unit some extra heads and the MFT adaptor is about $2,000.

Hey Peter!
That Vac-Sys clamping unit looks really sweet.  I'm in denial right now - way too many $$, but that's the way my thought process on big new tools always starts - and I usually give in after a few months. [big grin]

I remember the videos you did with your shop made vacuum clamps.  Is that where Festool got the idea?

Looking forward to learning more about it.  Have you seen it in person?  I'm wondering what the noise level is.

I've had the option to buy this for a while in Oz. Although vacuum clamping is an eventual certainly for me, portable clamping on an MFT isn't the configuration I want .. I'm more inclined to want two heads on an adjustable "T" station bolted to the floor. For this reason I've held off.

I think a "T" station designed to take these heads and channel the hoses would be a killer companion product. I haven't seen anyone do this for for the VACSYS, but now that it's heading to the US I'm expecting to see some home built innovations - particularly when you consider the cost of 2 brackets and effectively tying up an MFT (and still not having walk around access to your work piece).

[big grin] [popcorn]

Hey Peter,
I'm interested in purchasing the SE 1 and the vacuum hose. Since I already have a vacuum pump that I pulled off of a Milwaukee diamond drill Vac-U-Rig that I've used for years on a vacuum chuck for my metal lathe, the price of entry is rather reasonable for me.

I've been waiting 4 years for this to happen and almost pulled the pin on a Virutex unit a couple of months ago.

Uses: just conventional lumber/wood holding for sanding & finishing. It's probably one of those items that when you start to play with it other ideas spring to mind.

Not interested in this product.  I was confused thinking that the Vac-Sys was the Systainer Vacuum.  Very disappointed to see that it is the clamping system.  The two items that I want as soon as available are the HKC 55 cordless portable circular saw and the CTL SYS mobile dust extractor.  Come on Festool push for UL approval NOW! [mad]

Maybe this will be the post that refutes people's thoughts that I am totally Festool.

I saw the Vac Sys Jesse just like you did when we attended that class in Lebanon back in August 2009.  Cool tool, lots of whistles for me.  They had all of this except for the redesigned pump back then.

I have been a proponent of vacuum clamping and encouraging people to experiment going from the least expensive end and working their way up.  You don't need to spend thousands to get the same results.

Now, if Festool wants to send me a unit to review, and be prepared for the fact that I have posted contra ideas for years and will review it from a non shop-based basis,  I will do a fair review and post it here.

But right now, my wallet is safely locked in my back pocket

The vac clamps with their interchangeable heads look great and I will probably break down and buy one or two of basic ones and the various heads.  That being said, I have less than $500.00 in the two Verutex that I presently use.  I bought two basic without the vac generator  and without the swivel.  I attached them to a pair of barstool swivels and made bases that attach with dogs from under the MFT.  It is the ability to change out heads that I can see as being worth the tariff.

I am interested but will likely wait until after the IWF to decide.  Somehow, the extended delay of this item reaching the US shores caused me to search for what appears to be a more appealing alternative such as the Barth vacuum clamping table.

I guess it all boils down to how much the tools are used and whether you are a commercial or a DIY account.
I agree, the Barth table really is a nice piece of equipment and I'd kill for it, however, at 109" x 88" x 49", it's just too large to fit into my shop. Not to mention the $8000 price tag, and this is for the smallest size they offer. A Vac-Sys priced at approximately $600-$700 because I already own the vacuum pump, certainly works for me.
