I would start by digging through the manual to see what conditions will cause the unit to shut down (overheating, bag full, clogged filter??), then try to track down the sensors that detect such a condition and feed a signal back to the "brain". Look for damaged wiring while you're chasing down those sensors.

Read error codes? Don't think so, the vac is too simple to have a processor on board.
