I've had a RS 400 EQ sitting in its case for several years and have used little (has maybe total of 16 hours use). Today it jumped from speed 2 to full speed. I turned it off and on but now only runs at full speed. First time I've had such disappointing performance from Festool. Any suggestions for a fix?

First, welcome to the forum.
You might want to operate the speed control to the extremes several times. That is something that has been mentioned here several times for various tools. If that doesn't work you should probably contact Festool. The contact number should be conveniently printed on the label on your tool.

The electronics module is toast. You can order it from Festool and replace it yourself or have them replace it. Last option is more expensive of course.
Part number is 489498 and costs $26.36 ex VAT.
Replacement is very simple. Screw open the top of the sander using torx 15 driver. Pull out the module and disconnect the wires leading to it. Reverse instructions for the new module.
