Thanks for the heads-up Shane... [thumbs up] [thumbs up]  I already have one but others may want one with a Plug-It.

I've requested on a number of occasions that Festool give FOG members a simple notice when a product is being changed or obsoleted. However...

Everyone realizes that the Vecturo is just a rebranded Fein Supecut, right? Clearly, either Fein is no longer willing to run a separate production line just for a special cord and they have notified Festool of this or Festool is not willing to pay what Fein wants to charge for the special order.

[member=64030]TinyShop[/member] I seem to recall that there were vibration issues with the Plug-It cords in the Vecturo that caused the connectors to wear out prematurely. I think the fixed cord is more likely going after that aspect over manufacturing issues.

I suspect there might be durability problems with the plug-it cord on the Vecturo when used professionally.  That's just speculation on my part.

I think the conversion away from Plug-it is also because this tool doesn't need it as much as other tools that are more shop-based or production space oriented where you're swapping between multiple tools.

The updated fixed-cord models are also now available for order on our website.

However, to my knowledge this is the first time an existing plug-it version has been discontinued in favor of a fixed version.  Given Festool's promotion of plug-it cords as an improvement over fixed, I think Festool should state why they are switching.

They've done it with other tools like the Rotex and ETS sanders. In those cases they didn't discontinue the Plug-It cord, but started to offer normal corded versions as well, after feedback from customers.

I ordered three extra replacements In case Festool decided to stop selling that part in the future.

Stupid me over tightened one of the case screws while putting it back together and snapped the screw. It’s holding up good now but I may be seeing some duct tape wrapped around the handle in my immediate future.

If Festool knows there is a durability issue with the plug it cord on the Vecturo, why would they sell the existing stock off when they know the tools will fail? And why would anyone rush to buy a tool knowing it's likely to fail? Festool should be pulling the existing Vecturos and offering a trade in for people who have a plug it cord model.

Festools dealing with product issues is concerning. No manufacturer has a perfect record, but how they deal with their lemons is what can make a company great and creates brand loyalty.

It terms of the question why Vecturo is now corded? 

Here are the responses I received from Festool USA on my question as to why the Vecturo was no longer made as a Plug-It corded tool.  First time I received what seemed to be corporate babel from Festool!!!

Ok this is getting frustrating. 

The question is WHY was this tool made a fixed cord and all the other tools will remain with detachable cords.  If you don’t know find out, if you do know please say why.  Don’t give me corporate research spin again.  I quite frankly don’t expect that from Festool.  I have never had a problem learning the why in a tool change the past.

There was no problem with the tool as mentioned in your inquiry. Continuous research of the tools is important to Festool, and it has been noted that a straight plug was a better setup for this tool.

OK good!  The first answer below was vague.  Did the vibration of the tool create a problem with the detachable cord.  All it said was research dictated. 

Festool fans like to know the reason for engineering changes.  Probably because we appreciate the engineering.  I love the ability to  grab another Festool and use the same cord rather than finding another outlet.

This was a change only done to this tool only, there are no plans to make any other tools a straight plug at this time.

So are you going to do this to all the tool line?

I hope not, as I enjoy the removable cords as they allow me to use multiple tools with one power connection.

Thank you for contacting Festool. The Vecturo OS 400 received a small update on its cable only. The Plug it Cable was removed and replaced with a fixed cord for convenience and ease of use. Research dictated that a fixed cord works best with this tool and improves the tool going forward.

ME - Original Question

Looking at buying the Vecturo OS Set, but noticed on my suppliers website they are now all with a fixed cord.  Why did Festool go with a fixed cord on the Vecturo?  Any other changes to the Vecturo OS?  Are you going to go fixed cord with all the tools?  I hope not.
