I was curious about this Veritas jig but only own the DF700.  I went into Lee Valley (they didn't have the jig on display), I measured the fences for the 500 and the 700 and they seemed similar.
They say the jig isn't compatible with the 700 but does anyone know why?

Is it the fence I didn't notice?  Or something on the domino that makes it an obstruction, or the fastening bolt holes on the bottom ?

Aren't the mounting holes on the base the same on the two machines?

Could it be that the cut-out on the table is too small for the DF700 base? (It'd be an easy fix if that is the reason.)

If it were an easy fix I'm surprised they didn't think of the adapter option and make it for both.  They do a good job at thinking their products out.  Maybe the DF700 is just really long and hard to handle on a jig like this ?

If anything I would consider the handling and plunging on the 700 to be a fair bit superior to the 500. The balance is so much better IMHO.

I agree, beautifully designed tool. Glad I sold my 500 and upgraded to the 700.

I own the Veritas jig and the 500 sticks out a fair way but it does feel balanced. I think the 700 would be unbalanced and may cause the jig to tilt but I'm sure someone will think of a clever solution

Yes, if the reason for incompatibility is due to concern about balance, that'd be an easy fix, too.
