Veritas Marking Gauge with micro adjust or Dual marking Gauge?

As one may figure I have a question regarding Veritas marking gauge, so if you guys have any input don;t be shy

Is it worth to get a dual marking gauge, or just a single one is fine? As far as I can see, the dual one does not have a micro adjuster feature, but is it something that is used a lot ( it seems to me that using some thickness reference blocks, like one from Veritas, will get you quiet precise dimensions for marking)? Does a dual marking one present something that is of a more value compared to micro adjuster? Another question is whether one needs a graduated marking (be it imperial or metric?) or its a nice feature to have but is rarely used due referencing against stock, etc?

I like the micro adjust feature and the graduated marking (imperial version), both features the dual gauge doesn't have. *Most* of my marking is not for mortises, so a dual gauge is not needed as much. Obviously, my choice is for the single gauge.

There wasn't a micro-adjust version available when I bought mine, but I would only buy a marking gauge with one in future. Almost every time I use it I find myself tapping it at either end to adjust it every so slightly which is irritating.

Like upscale, I have no need for the dual gauge. I'd rather have two gauges set to different marks than one gauge with two blades.

As for the graduated rods, mine is graduated but I rarely use the scale. I don't find it accurate enough when I need a scale and there are better ways to set the gauge than to use the scale on the rod.

When I bought my single micro adjustable marking gauge I also bought a set of adjustable 'Mortice Gauge Heads' from Utilitas Toolworks in Canada that fit the Veritas (or any other 5/16" rod) marking gauge.

Haven't used it yet in real life, but it seems to be a solid bit of kit and a snug fit to the rod. The product number is 15N0101.

If a message in the Lumber Jocks board is of some indication Utilitas is a Lee-Valley non-original design side trademark

For what it's worth, I own both a Veritas Standard Gauge and a Tite-Mark Gauge that is micro adjustable.  It seems to be easier to set and use two gauges.  I also find myself using the micro adjust feature more and more.

For mortising, couldn't you set both heads of a dual gauge and strike both lines at once?

As Richard noted, the scale on the graduated versions of the Veritas gauge seem imprecise compared to the level of accuracy I want from the tool so I never use it.  The micro-adjust is handy sometimes, though I'm sure I could live without it, as most of the time when setting a marking gauge, I use some form of positive registration.

The dual-cutter gages are handy for M&T work. You can mark out the mortise width and the tenon thickness with the same cutter spacing.
